i already know 6k pretty well (i can S rank 5.7 stars and can prob A rank a bunch of 6 stars) and i wanna get into 8k but theres so few 8k charys out there and theres no preposterously wide variety of map packs like 6k and ive checked and therr arent even difficulty numbers, how can i get into 8k? and do i need to learn/ might as well learn 10k?

many/most 8k maps are mapped with the idea of 7k+1 in mind, so if you arent use to using your thumb you might have a bit of difficulty (although i do know a few people who play no thumb, it just makes your life a little more difficult). many people with an admiration for 8k will eventually go down the BMS pipeline, so i recommend looking into that a little bit if youre interested in a wide array of 8k maps for all skill zones (+ they have their own difficulty scaling, all available online ofc). that being said, there are quite a lot of 8k maps over in the graveyard section, in case you werent aware, you can use key=8 in the search to give you specifically 8k things.

you could also definitely get into things like 9k and 10k, even more if youre inclined. if interested in 10k (and more), i recommend checking out kchecka for guides and maps

wait so if i wanna learn 8k then im just doing 7k+1s? thats silly, we really need n key + n scratch to be seperate key modes rather than just total. do you know any 8k vsrgs? either converts of that in osu or the game itself

From memory, Djmax respect v or something like that. It 4k 5k 6k 8k.

Edit: also I think most ranked 8k maps are mapped as 8k. Not 7k+1

thanks for mentioning djmax. also im partly worried about lack of map packs lmao, theyre just so much more fun and good for imorovement. when i went from playing 6k graveyardeds to 6k map packs it felt like fnf to mania all over again, and how fnf to mania felt is very fun

maybe i should make 8k map packs one day, after i actually learn 8k

ok so, there's 2 ways to play 8K
one requires you to use your pinkies (index middle, ring, pinky)
the other one is all about using thumbs (thumb, index, middle, ring)

the native 8k mains normally prefer thumbs, as this layout grants you with more finger control and stamina, while also being able to hit all types of patterns hard to pull off with pinkies

as for the ranked section, the previous ranking criteria just considered 7k+1 as 8k, so most ranked/loved maps will play wrong cuz you're not using the correct playstyle. you can always check for the map's description and/or tags to check if an old map (usually from 2023 and prior) is using the 7K1S layout.
if you want a quick list of ranked native 8K maps, I have one in the 10K+ server

if you want non ranked content, you can check profiles like HeavenUsurper, krrcream or a ri su for some native 8K maps that are just hidden in the server

and for 8K VSRGs there aren't as many, really. Most I can think of is EZ2ON REBOOT R, which has a native 8 Key mode with a customizable layout (which, yes, supports the idea of playing 8k with thumbs) and project godhand, which even if its a mashing rhythm game, you can still be a nerd and play it like a normal VSRG.
Djmax is NOT an 8k game, its 8b layout is just 6K + 2 bumpers btw
