When i screenshare osu! in discord the game becomes really laggy with frequent framedrops and freezes. This started happening recently, and didn't use to happen before. In addition to this the screenshare is basically unwatchable as it freezes all the time.

i have tried screensharing other (more demanding) games as well and the issues only occur when screensharing osu. I've also tried to screenshare my entire screen (screen 1 option), which works until i open osu on the screen, then it starts lagging and freezing again. Neither stable nor cutting edge works.

Edit 1: I found at that if i disable fullscreen mode the issues are gone, but return the instant i enable it again.

For me personally I had to turn off any kind of screen overlays. But still seems to be on Discord's end tbh...

Ive tried to disable all overlays but dont seem to work. Maybe it could be an incompatibility issue between discord and osu due to settings seeing that it only lags when osu is in focus on the screenshare
heyhandsome
current fix for this is turning on compatibility mode in game, that should make it run better on sharescreens and stops the freezing

you mean like, playing the game in windowed mode? i'm facing the same issue

i've seen that windows version 24h2 could be the problem

There is a setting called "Fullscreen mode" and unticking that solved the problem

Mhhh, i already have that unticked but no luck, still getting frame drops :(

for me the same happens but on lazer, my input suffers from this really hard
(i use DX 11 and fullscreen is on, tested with every renderer and still the same)

yeah really weird, seems to be caping out my ram using 9 or so gigabytes. only when im screensharing to discord and part way though a level

Hi! im having similar issues. any fix from your end?

Reminder to disable Discord overlay after all these updates. It's enforced for probably? everyone again...
By the way, disable clipping in Discord settings too, see if that helps with your streaming issues (didn't help in my case but might help for you).

I'm in exactly the same situation.

Same for me, I recently installed windows 11 and it happens only on windows 11. I had windows 10 before and had no issues...

I have the same exact issue, but I have also noticed that this happens in other games as well. Requiring me to go borderless. Fresh install on Windows 11, I never had issues on Windows 10.

So far, I think the best solution is to go onto OSU! and turn on compatibility mode. Make sure you also have overlay disabled. This means you can stream and still have fullscreen.

I have the same issue still :/

Hello guys i've been having the same issue but i kinda found a fix, while streaming on discord on Osu!Lazer the FPS goes from 900 to 100 and it repeats that causes huge lag spikes.

Seems like having the game on Window mode locks the FPS and fixes the lag

Just started experiencing this issue yesterday, despite not changing anything.
Have tried the following troubleshooting options:

  1. Updated graphics card drivers to the latest version.
  2. Turned off windowed optimizations in Windows 11.
  3. Tried using every renderer available in osu!lazer.
  4. Ensured Windows 11 is up-to-date.
  5. Running osu!lazer in compatibility mode.
  6. Disabled Discord Overlays. (These were already disabled, they're annoying asf.)
  7. Tried both enabling and disabling hardware acceleration, both in Discord & osu!lazer.
Thinking, perhaps it could be an issue with Windows 11, or a recent release from Discord?
Do we have any word on this? Issue seems to resolve itself whenever playing in anything other than fullscreen mode.

Not sure if this actually solved the problem — it might just be a coincidence — but I noticed the issue went away after I changed the priority of all Discord processes to "Normal" in the Task Manager.
Sometimes Discord changes the priority back to "High" on its own, so make sure to double-check it.

Windows Settings > System > Display > Graphics

Locate OSU then turn off "Optimizations for windowed games"

You're Welcome!

nah it's still frame drops everywhere.

Some of the fixes seem to be mixed opinions

Playing in windowed mode results in a bit more input delay, but is the most reliable to be able to screenshare.

Some people say compatibility mode fixes it as well, however, it makes it almost unplayable for me.

Turning off "Optimizations for windowed games" does not do anything as it simply stays the same.

For nvidia users, within manage 3D settings in nvidia control panel for program settings, scroll all the way down and find Vulkan/OpenGL present method, select the option Prefer layered on DXGI Swapchain results in it going back to normal, as well as fixing an issue with a black screen for 3-5 seconds when alt-tabbing. (I play with capped 1k fps, I've noticed degraded performance when on unlimited.)
I haven't used this option very much because I felt like it made my tablet input a little jittery, could be placebo, but everyone might have varied results. Personally it used to be perfect before with alt-tabbing with instant minimizing and perfectly fine screensharing up until Late January - Late February/Early March.

If anyone has any other suggestions for fixes, do let me know.

Same issue here after being on a map for a few seconds while streaming on discord the latency goes up to like 2.5-4 from 0.5 and the fps drop from 2000 to 300.

Didnt play osu for a while and i switched to Win 11 in the meantime i dont remember having those problems on Win 10
Slink
It's definitely something on discords end. I tried to stream osu mania, djmax respect, quaver, etterna and I get the same exact results (latency jumping all over the place as well as fps). I can stream any other demanding game such as r6, apex, cs2 with no problem. Hopefully they come up with a fix for this.

hello guys i am back in this thread i believe if you still have this issue and have an nvidia card you can force your nvidia settings for osu at the very bottom (Vulkan/OpenGL present method) to prefer layered on DXGI swapchain and turn on windowed optimizations again without issues, you will not be able to use exclusive fullscreen so do not try it be sure to untick fullscreen before enabling this should fix windowed input latency problems and also stuttering caused by capturing software/discord screen sharing (note this will not help you if you are on lazer because lazer already supports dx12 you can try doing this with opengl though maybe) once you do this you can get windowed borderless by ticking the render at native resolution button in your osu settings and it will basically be fullscreen again edit: this is available on amd too if you enable "OpenGL triple buffering" in the settings though with a third frame buffer latency might be slightly higher than exclusive fullscreen though still lower than normal windowed

Apologies if this is a resurrect (and double apologies that I'm not resurrecting with a solution) but I'm getting this too. It wasn't this way about a month or two ago, and I'm kinda thinking it might be the result of a W11 update (24H22 introduced a lot of problems for a lot of random things, wondering if it's that?..) I haven't had the chance to test by uninstalling updates but that's my first immediate suspicion, before thinking it's Discord. Sorta bumping to see if anyone else is getting this and they're not fully-updated on W11 or are one to two updates behind as that would rule out the W11 update suspicion.

My behavior is the same as several users above, capturing via Discord will stutter and eventually fully freeze the game, and users watching it on Discord report that they see it stuck on a screen pretty early into watching the stream (before it even starts stuttering on my end.)

Compatibility mode and non-fullscreen mode does seem to help but it introduces some input and visual delay on my side that isn't present otherwise.

Lazer captures fine, but I'm still enjoying stable for the time being and would like to be able to capture it.
