How do i find the right offset for a map. sounds fine and on beat while editing but when i play it, it sounds so off

while timing you may wanna slow the song down to 25% and turn the effect volume on, it's gonna be easier to hear the wrong timing (compare the osu metronome sound to the sounds in the music, if they all play at the same time then the timing is good)
also try to make sure that the timing is right everywhere in the map, if you use a wtong bpm, the timing may sounds right in the intro but it’s gonna sounds off at the ending
the song may also need to use multiple redlines too

I'd rather suggest 50% minimum instead. peppy said the audio distortion in 25% is really bad, and iirc some mappers also advised moving redline by around ±2ms if you use 25% playback for timing.dPeace wrote:
