Your opinion on maps quality is as subjective as the opinion of thoose judging them ;)
Thats how a contest work: entries are anonymously judged so judges can't say if one entry is similar to other maps the mapper has made and it makes your second point invalid... Judges are just expressing their opinions on the map they have under their eyes not on the mapper behind it.
I don't agree with it. pishi's entry was my favorite one, and I don't think at all that his entry is similar to his other maps. If you take for example "Everything went Numb", "Shelter", his difficulty for osu!international, "115" and some of his other diffs, you can't say that he is making the same map over and over, I was surprised his entry went #4 cause for me it worth more.
You can do same for handsome, he does a lot of gimmicky maps and lot of his maps are different. You can compare "SHA" with "Something just like dixx" or with his "JoJo Bizarre Adventure" difficulty, and you can't say he is doing same thing over and over... Even tho, in this contest, his difficulty was not my favorite one.
I prefer to don't talk about NeilPerry cause I don't really know much about his maps.
If you're interested to see the judgement of this contest, you can have a look at the judging sheet. Revurii's entry was the 26th~
Could you link some maps in which pishifat for example made the "same map" with very similar concepts?
Could you link some maps in which Handsome used the exact same concepts and ideas? The only similar one is ascending and descending of slider velocity used in kiai.
And please don't shove it off as with "take any of their maps lol" because you know that's a hyperbole and untrue. I'm not a fan of their diffs either but that's not the point.
Even though I disagree that they're as low-effort as you claim them to be I was as well very surprised when I saw that rii's entry scored so low. Even w/o hs I expected top 10 at least but I can't argue with that
It seems that the majority of the judges were in favour of the top entries' mapping styles in general and nothing can really be done about it other than trying to get a variety of people so it can kind of be balanced out, something that seems it's being done this round
Hey! I understand where you are coming from, and adding on to the fact that there were a few issues regarding judges in this iteration of the contest, it was mediocre at best. I am trying to help fix this in the future, but there are a few things you should know:
As faygo stated earlier in this thread, revurii’s entry placed low due to how their entry was not hitsounded and overall how high hitsounds were weighted when doing calculations. I will be fixing this in the next iteration of the contest
While judging had it’s own fair set of issues, do note that most of the scoring is based on a subjective opinion by the three judges present, and entries were anonymous so little to no bias (EDIT: about names) could take place. revurii’s entry placed low because of the judges’ opinions on the map and the lack of hitsounding.
I would love some feedback for future contests as I really do want to make this contest good for everyone, I’m sorry if you feel like it’s bad :(
For the most part, I agree. JABC was generally something I did as a way to get myself into the community by supplying events. The competition grew, and I socialized more. I took inspiration from mostly MMC and built off of it to where it is now, and I am happy with how far I came. The competition will always stay subjective, and I know I can’t please everyone, but really see this as something informal. :)
EDIT: Again, feedback would be wonderful to help improve the contest. All unpopular opinions and hot takes welcome :)
