You can modify your .cfg file with notepad to set a custom resolution, modifying the Width and Height values (or WidthFullscreen and HeightFullscreen if you use fullscreen).

I think. I haven't tested this on the new build, not sure if it still works.

Wait what, the resolutions were removed...? Why? o_o

Anyway, as far as I know editing the .cfg should still work, my portable osu! on the flashdisk is actually running on 512x384.

In the new update peppy removed all the resolutions that weren't meant to be compatible with your computer

Also, what is the actual resolution of your display?? Just pick the one that says (native)?
How were you even able to set a resolution higher than your display's?

lol editing the .cfg file sill works and fortunately my problem got solved
thx all of you :)

(sorry MetalMario201) :P

Still, no resolution you can set from Windows Display Properties should be hidden from that list. If you can't set your device's native resolution from that list, it is a Windows configuration problem and not osu!'s fault.

In fact, your driver will stop osu! from setting any resolutions not in its list, leading to this issue.

i'm new and just downloaded osu..
i opened the program and the game doesn't fit my screen..
i'm using an asus eee pc s101h..
running on windows7 32bit ..
screen resolution 1024x600..
i tried using fullscreen but it still doesn't fit.. too big..
did i have any problem during installation or something ?? :?:
ps.. really want to try this game.. :)

Set 640x480, or use 1024x600 fullscreen.
Claudia_old
Hnng, my monitor is 1024x576 and I lost my custom resolution [1024x600] after using the beatmap editor, so my only option is 640x480, which runs at 9fps.

What program opens a .cfg file?

Edit: Nevermind, edited the file, hope this works..
mm201
1024x576 should be on the fullscreen resolution list, listed as (native).
I don't recommend setting a resolution higher than your display's native, or so much as equal to it for windowed mode.
Something is wrong with your device if 640x480 gets 9fps.

If we're in .cfg file...

I wonder I haven't noticed that earlier. You have really good sense of humour, guys

Um what do you type into the .cfg to change the resolution?
All I see are the options on the screenshot I took

Derekku
Open the osu!."your windows username".cfg file, not the osu!.cfg one.

Change the "Height = " and "Width = " lines and save.

Well, I play in Windowed mode, so that might be the case. It seems that when I run programs in my native resolution or close to it, they don't lag. 640x480 depends on the program.

But 1024x576 is working great so far.

Thanks! it works :3
Rayna-Chan
I changed the resolution on osu! and now it opens in a small square with everything magnified to the point where I can't get to options or any other part of the menu. I've tried re-downloading and everything and it's still the same! What do I do?

That should work fine
Just change them to bigger numbers (like 800x600) until you can see the options and then set it to the right thing

You can find the cfg file in the osu folder and you can open it with notepad
Crakila

(I created this for future support questions)

Hopefully this will help you a bit easier to find the cfg file and edit the screen size :)

I wrote osu!check a while back as a simple configuration editor. You can use that, too (if it works ...).

Err isn't that the 'Low-end PC' option in the Options menu...?

Also, it seems that the native resolution only appears if you're under fullscreen; when not in fullscreen, the only widescreen available is 1024 x 600...
mm201
You shouldn't be using your native resolution in Windowed mode. The osu! window will be cut off by the taskbar, and it needs room for its title bar.
clonedstarman
i really don't understand any of this
and i really need help fixing the height and width

I don't think VampiricPadraig's visual guide is going to get any simpler

This thread is old, but anyway, MM, it really doesn't work.
My monitor's maximum supported resolution is 1280x1024, yet it shows this
If I select any higher the monitor reports that the picture size is out of range.
Winshley
Nice necrobump, clonedstarman. Anyways...

@Ijah: osu! doesn't support any resolutions that has [width/4 < height/3] or having aspect ratio (width/height) lower than 1.3333... (referring to any screen resolution "taller" than 4:3).

1280×1024 satisfies the "tallscreen resolution" condition above, since [1280/4 < 1024/3] = [320 < 341.3333...], and having the aspect ratio of 1.25 which is lower than 1.3333....

(Excuse my math nerd skills :P)

About resolutions settings higher than monitor's native resolutions, that could happen depending on your graphic card driver settings. Tried enabling "Hide resolutions that the monitor can't support", or disabling the setting that makes your graphic card driver to ignore the native resolution mentioned by your computer monitor?

Or it could also happen because you're using customised or unsupported or outdated or corrupted drivers.
mm201
Ijah: Your monitor isn't providing correct EDID information to your video card, so your video card thinks it's capable of any resolution. You may have some luck by updating your video card and/or monitor drivers. Either way, the problem is not with osu!.

osu!'s user interface isn't designed to work with resolutions taller than 4x3. 1280x1024 users should set it to 1280x960 and rely on their monitors/video cards to provide black bars.

Or like in most cases, stretch the image to whatever aspect ratio the screen uses.
