You can use whatever you want, just do it in a creative way. For instance, I can slap the osu! logo on a shirt, so if you're going to do something like that make it creative.

The design is what matters, not the components used.

I never thought to ask this earlier, but are front/back designs supported, or can graphics only appear on the front of the shirt?

I think Skyripper said "why not"

My biggest concern is that the t-shirt itself isn't fashionable enough. The clothing design on the other hand usually always works best with minimalism.

An osu! logo is a must for this t-shirt. Everything else could be too subjective and keep some customers away from buying the t-shirt.
ManuxP

blasphemy

ok. here's some IDEAS (not any final design)

it's up to you (the designers) to make this look better. Which one do you think is the best?

What is the font used in the default hit circles, and are we allowed to use the osu! logo? Wait, that's a really really stupid question.

Sorry I didn't notice I missed the 'H' and put the 'Y'. I feel so embarrassed  .
Now It's okay, I think!
Doodley
I've got one design for you right now.

This design is supposed to be as informational as possible. It shows off the osu! logo, hit circles, slogan, and even the website URL, all in a super pink palette that looks best on three different colors of tees! All of it is at an extremely high resolution.

I believe it's important to present the website URL, as anyone who sees your tee will be able to know just what to do to get more information!

The design itself, at a super high resolution with transparency. The logo and hit circles are all made to look as if they are at an angle, and popping out.

The design can use two pink colors, a dark reddish pink and a white.

This looks best on a bright blue tee.

I may return later with another design.

hoping this isnt a stupid question, but are we allowed to draw our posts?

That's mine :3

I am not sure if it even could be considered as original artwork...
But at least I think this placement looks minimalistic and neat on a t-shirt

Also mod pictures can be placed near the collar on the back or on the sleeves
Like Hidden+Doubletime, Hidden+Hardrock, Hidden+Flashlight
If anything I think it's more likely that experienced players are going to buy such t-shirts

It's possible to play around with colorizing everything. Like making osu! logo black/bright yellow glowing
I am just not sure the creator of this game wants that
peppy
Please do NOT put your design on a photo of a t-shirt. Provide the actual raw artwork.
Please do NOT use spoiler tags.
Please do NOT quote other people's images.

Please do fix your previous posts with this in mind.

Keep in mind that you can't use huge colour gamuts when printing on shirts. The fewer colours, the better. Also keep in mind fine line artwork will not print well (and the lines may be indiscernible from each other).

Also please keep comments on other people's designs from this thread. We will begin to delete these just to keep things in order.

I'd buy a "Big Big Yeah" shirt if anyone actually made it.
theowest
Here's a submission. Feel free to remake it if you think you can do better.

Big version (just increased in size by 600%)

Smaller version:

This would not work well with some colours. Works well with white, silver, Heather Grey, Turquoise, Blue, Blue Jean, Ocean Blue, Light Blue, Jade, and Lagoon. I'm not sure what size of this design would work best on the t-shirt.

Doodley wrote:

I use templates from Threadless, as they provide me with more colors and a better look at what the design would look like on a tee. The templates are available here!
The reason why it's pixelated is because it's harder for me to work with non-pixelated fonts. The reason why my avatar looks the way it looks.
Here's what was going on in my head, first I was thinking about just osu!, but that was boring and old, so I put .exe on the end: "osu!.exe". This however looked weird with the two punctuation symbols right next to each other. So I created another line. Now I wanted to add something else, so I thought of putting an osu! cookie in the background, still a possibility but it was so much easier for me just to put two pink lines around it. The colour matches the website pink.

here's more ideas that I myself cannot design

real men wear pink
Actually, real men traditionally wear red. Pink, being a weaker version of the passionate red, was for boys. And blue, as the cooler emotional colour, was for women... light blue, as a colour of purity (and associated with the Virgin Mary), was for girls. Sometime last century (which is within living memory, talk to enough old people and you'll hear stories of this... you can also see references to this by going through magazine archives from the early 20th century), the associations for pink and blue got switched. Of course, this is also limiting things to modern western culture... things vary quite a bit across the world as well as through time. The point being, that there really isn't any gender significance in colours beyond what you put there yourself.

You could draw a Link-like character. Just not specifically his image because we cannot legally say that it is Link.

on shirt.woot.com they use characters that have a copyright at times, but they do it in a manner in which it could easily be said the character is someone else.

Also this:

Snepif wrote:

Selling fanart drawn by yourself is illegal? I'm not sure about that. You are not claiming the character is yours, nor the game series. You are claiming the drawing is yours. Correct me if I am wrong, but that's my logic?

Edit: @the above post. That would mean it is legal and ok to sell that t-shirt? The drawing itself is just a fanart, it doesn't say it is Link or something

If it's fanart, I don't see a big deal. If you copy-pasted an image of Link that was a Nintendo design, well you would have an issue.

I personally sell fanart... I've never been in trouble for it.

EDIT: Keep your submission, I like it. We will see.

Also, I would wear that shirt all day long.

Ummm... unless I missed something? The T'shirt bit was just to show its best contrast color and to give better reference of look which you cant get from just an image and a raw as a submission wasn't a requirement...
Submissions can be any resolution, but winners must provide 300+ DPI proofs (.ai or a similar vector format preferred)
Keep in mind that you can't use huge colour gamuts when printing on shirts.
Not true this depends on the method of transfer. If the business does their job right that should never be an issue.

Please do NOT use spoiler tags.
If the image is stock spoilers should stop a potential 20mb+ png from loading until its clicked, I dont wanna see what a full page of 20mb images is like loading all at once XD

Just provide the design. Not the design overlaid on a photo of a t-shirt.

It makes submissions unequal. I will be deleting any that are on templates. If you want contrast, change the background colour of the image.
For judging, they may all be placed on templates of equal nature by us.

I am asking based on the requirements I have. Unless you want to handle the printing / store / distribution process, please accept these terms.

Spoiler tags do not stop images from loading. No one should be posting 20mb images in this thread (as the raw does not need to be provided, and osu! forums will scale it back to 600x anyway).

Year late on that one :<
Unfortunately I sold most of my equipment, Only things I can still do is sublimation printing and vinyl heat transfers in regards to transferring graphics onto textiles. I would have taken that task :)

Ohh btw what happened to the logos in the FAQ?

We will let you know when we have a final decision on the company we use to do the prints.

Right now, I'm going to say Horizontal: 2100 x 1800 pixels (14" x 12") and Vertical: 1800 x 2100 pixels (12" x 14") for T-Shirts (these are maximum resolutions for the site I am looking in to). That's 150 ppi. Of course, higher resolutions can be presented, just as of now, assume they will be down scaled.

If you aren't sure what ppi is, click here.

Well, I meant "resolution" in terms of the more traditional meaning of the term - the smallest amount of detail that can be seen, or "resolved", which would've been limited by whatever equipment the company you turn to uses - if using a printing resolution of 150 ppi as a approximate, I think it should be fine.

It would've affected the drawing I'm doing if you guys had already chosen a printing company and, for example, a distance of 1mm between lines could not be resolved. If it's still up in the air, I'll just continue as-is and correct for things like that after the fact if the issue arises.

(Also, fyi, I'm doing my entry at approx. 4000x6500, which should be more than enough)
jedric_old
is it possible to just draw it? like, draw a shirt with the design drawn on it? or does it have to be just the design?
Nekoroll
All images are 33% downsized @ 300dpi unless otherwise noted

Idea 1: simplistic with 2 colors; halftone for easy screenprinting process

Edit: 6/14/2012
Idea 2: simplistic with more colors

Edit: 6/17/2012
Idea 3: complex with 6 colors; 25% downsize; Pippi! :)

Still brainstorming more ideas. If I come up with more designs, I'll edit this one as per the rules.

Apart from the eyes, I kept everything flat to keep with a minimal palette.
I want to color this properly anyway, so if you end up with a company who does CMYK screen printing, I'll post that when it's done.

EDIT:ed the hair a bit.
What particularly was wrong with it?

The term is tramp, thank you. Pippi is a tramp

the official design of Pippi also isn't mandatory - you can draw her in other outfits, or with her hair done differently if you really want to. I'd just recommend making it still identifiable (eg if you want to axe the bangs, give her hair pink tips or something)

I do think that if she's being included in the design, it should integrate well - like she was meant to be there, and not just kind of tacked on.
RBRat3
Its ok that she dresses like a slut, If she didn't I probably would get shit for putting her in all kinds of kinky positions with sticky all over her or for even considering doing a dakimakura XD

As for the top... MMMmmm I love thick thighs, needs more ass or thin her abdomen :)

I agree with this. I also think my design needs more work based on that. It lacks balance.

Will do!

Skyripper wrote:

My thoughts on this were that, as mentioned earlier, she's just kind of there. She's not interacting with the rest of the design. She could be rolling the osu! logo, or peeping out from behind it, or leaning on it, or something, and the pose itself isn't quite dynamic enough for a shirt imo
YodaSnipe
I think I'll forever hate pippi cuz hair. oh well.
theowest
well this t-shirt should appeal to as many people as possible right? kids too yknow.

something I'm really against is geeking out too much about the game or having people on t-shirts. text/logos always work the best, no matter what.

Actually I will agree with that :D

it shouldn't be designed in such a way that you have to know what it is to appreciate it - I agree with that notion. I think that's the point of good design, anyway.
Daru

YodaSnipe wrote:

Her hair makes no sense - I don't particularly enjoy drawing that bit of it, and I've tried my hand at making it work more naturally while keeping it recognizable as "Pippi's". Generally speaking, I don't like hairstyles that require large amounts of styling to make it work in real life.

As can be evidenced by pretty much all of my posts in "Post your Desktop" thread, I like minimalism.

Thus:

I do think it's important to give a face to the game, though, and having an established mascot character like pippi is natural to put on a shirt. Thinking about an idolm@ster parody shirt as well.

EDIT:
I was also grappling with the idea of a "signature" item for Pippi to use as a focal point in the design, similar to the character symbols from HidaSketch. These simple symbols can be used to put together a design that's aesthetically pleasing to someone who doesn't know the series, but gives a bit of "extra" to those who do.

Also, darkened the pink.
YodaSnipe
I like that design, but I think the "click" should be more vibrant pink (looks pink to me anyways) ^^
Nekoroll

YodaSnipe wrote:

I agree with this. Right now, it appears to be a slightly pinkish sort of salmon color. Needs more pink for the REAL men. lol

On a side note, I have another design idea in mind. It's a lot more complex so I hope I can pull it off. D:
YodaSnipe

Nekoroll wrote:

Real men wear pink.
RBRat3
Hmm I didnt find her hair all that bad. Her hair makes perfect sense cause its overly simplistic which leaves room for expansion, I dont know why you would try to make natural sense of something that was overly exaggerated in the first place. I just look at it like a penis head cause all you need is the dividing line and length then its skys the limit XD
YodaSnipe
The fact that you had to compare to a penis for this, imo proves our point lol.
RBRat3
Well its the practical shape of it all, what you do with it is up to you.

This thread is too burdensome to sort through so I've gone and added links to all the "submission posts" to date in the first post.

If I've missed anybody: idk go yell at me to add you to the OP. Or ask Skipper, he can do it too. He should also be on the ball.

To everyone linked in the OP: make sure all of your designs are in the linked post. If you've posted two designs in two separate posts, well, you shouldn'ta done that. Just edit the linked post to include all designs. It's for everyone's convenience, y'know?

I also can't seem to get BounceBabe's design to load. Is it like a gig in size or something?
