Exemple : instead of just 'rock' there could be alternative rock, punk, metal, nu metal, progressive metal idk rock n roll, blues etc...

Same thing with electronic, there could be ALL the subgenres that exists like drum n bass, complextro, glitch, dubstep, techno, psywhatever, EBM, hardcore, breakbeat, brostep and all those other so much unique subgenres that astonished and amazed me when I discovered this game and that I never heard before. I have no idea what they are called and this could initiate a big knowledge and cultural sharing. And all that music I heard for the first time discovering the game, pretty much all of it is coming from asia right ? Tell me if I'm wrong

Also jazz, classic etc anything that exists in osu

I think it's an important feature that is missing in this game because u know it's a music game. It would gather beatmaps people are looking for in a more organized way. I assume that most people prefer beatmaps with songs that they like and less prefer playing beatmaps with music that are not their style. There are exceptions of course because some beatmaps are just fun to play even with what you'd consider bad music or just something you wouldn't like by just listening to it. But still, it would just be so useful and I think really cool to be able to explore beatmaps with and to have some sort of unrolling subgenres menus starting at main global genres. We could also both downright invent numerous genres names and, tag difficult to pinpoint songs to multiple genres to illustrate all of its influences we can determine. To keep this tool useful you would be able to select more or less encompassing genres like just metal, just electronic or little more precise and so on.

So yeah would be nice what do you think guys would that be feasable ? Would there be any downsides ? Listening enthusiasticaly

Well, seems we have 100% approval ! So how do we organize this ? I didn't really have much of a plan.

I suggest two things. First we could begin with the making of the "genre tree map". It would be mostly for the electronic category since there's a ton of subgenres. Not that jazz or metal doesn't have much too but they're still less broad and less present in the game. Well at least in mania cause that's the only mode I really play.

Secondly, idk if that would be a way to ultimately get to tag most of all beatmaps but I think it could be a good start. We can all begin to slowly make collections of our beatmaps as we play them, which styles sound alike. Doesn't matter if we're not sure about the genre, I think we should just give whatever name we feel suits it. It could give ideas for original genres. Then we could share those collections somehow within a main thread and update them as we collect more beatmaps for each genre. In that thread we would discuss the genres we think should appear in the genre tree map based on ulterior music knowledge and the collections we all made.

I feel this is very doable and that it should be done. I don't see any reasons why we shouldn't. So I'd be glad to initiate that project but I'd like to find other people that could help me lead it. So I need to get as much visibility as possible. Do you know how I could get that ? I'll post it on Reddit but I can't think of other places to post this.

Thanks !!

.
.
.
(will add more collections I currently have and eventually beatmaps' trends)

Side note : those collections are put here directly from the ones that I have in my own library and my goal is not to create a loyal map of all of already existing genres in electronic and other genres. This is why there's a lot of "personalized" genre collections because sometimes I'm just fooling around while creating them and this is kind of a part of my goal, to have fun while doing this. I think we should not hold back from inventing genres in this project if the need shows up. Also part of my goal is to create a map of all of already existing genres but you know, a combination of those two goals represent better my overall goal. So yeah thx. Oh and I also hope that more people will get interest in this project so we can discuss more about all of this and share all of our collections together. That's why I joined osu's discord but I didn't get much attention yet so if anyone could help me with that it would be really appreciated.

Side note 2 : Some of those genres are ones that I use to gather songs which I try of to pin down their style. For example, alternativ-e stands for alternative electronic but I'd like for most of the songs in the collection to be more precise. I'd still like to have a genre named alternativ-e cuz I like it but it's fine if we find something else. Same goes for prog.
