Some of the recent metadata rules put in place are a bit controversial, but the (TV Size) rule is probably one of the best things to happen. So many headaches are saved and things look more consistent.

I believe that this should also be applied to (Short Ver.), Game Size, and any of their variations.

While (TV Size) is applied to everything, (Short Ver.) and game size should only apply to titles that already have one in them. Else it would apply to almost everything and that's unhelpful.
The aim of this is to just avoid having excessive variations, example box
list
short ver.
(Short Ver.)
<Short Ver.>
(Short)
Should all use (Short Ver.)

Game Ver.
Game Size
Game Edit
Should all use (Game Ver.)
eg random sets that are affected https://osu.ppy.sh/s/396495 https://osu.ppy.sh/s/750166 https://osu.ppy.sh/s/714343
random sets that are unaffected (short vers of full songs but don't have length indicators in title) https://osu.ppy.sh/s/807111 https://osu.ppy.sh/s/862236

Good idea but I think it should also apply to official cuts that don't have Short Ver or something like that in the title, just like the TV Size rule. This would help distinguishing between full version and short version. Unofficial cuts should obviously not be affected by it so I don't think "else it would apply to almost everything and that's unhelpful" is necessarily true (maybe I'm also mistaken, idk)
Anyways, Game Size seems to be very rare when looking at the ranked section so I feel like we don't need an extra rule for it. It could either be replaced by Short Ver or be left as it is

imo using (Game Ver.) is a better idea for this to be kinda consistent with (Short Ver.)

...or what Haruki said

Regarding applying Short Ver to anything with a cut: This was discussed by the metadata team and dismissed because almost all content would require the short ver tag, which would be a huge mess. Standardising songs that already have length markers is much easier than giving markers to almost everything.

For whether Short Ver. is combined with Game Ver.: I think Game ver is common enough to warrant a separate tag but we'll see ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
In general, non game songs with Short Ver are cut for different reasons compared to a game song.

Regarding use of Game Size or Game Ver: When I did some initial searching, game size was more common but yeah rechecked with some different search terms, game ver is more common.
changed wording so Game Size -> Game Ver.

Can you give a few examples of songs that would be affected by it? Since you say that it would apply for almost all content. I think Short Ver is only needed for eroge/visual novels anyways because those usually have this marker and other songs don't. That would make a lot of sense alongside the TV Size rule

examples:
Majority of rhythm game music
All anime games
All anime stuff not covered by TV Size (Movies, insert songs, some doujin things)

that's a lot of stuff
I forgot that there was more variety in the ranked section for other modes because mania is literally nothing but anime or rhythm games
but anyways this was already discussed more in-depth by the team + Applying these rules to any short versions of a song is too much of a radical change, incremental smaller changes are easier to push to be merged.

Applying (Game Ver.) to all visual novels is something I'd like to see, but that just opens another can of worms for similar songs that aren't visual novels (eg Neptunia series). Having clear guidelines on what exactly should have game size is a bit unclear and just leaves loopholes.
