[Archived] Why does some users have weird countries in their userpages?

I have been checking the world rankings by country, then I saw that some people aren't from a country but in regions or hard to access or live places.
For instance: why is "Europe" and "Asia-Pacific Region" as a country? Why are there users from Vatican City or North Korea?

There are some "weird", unused and empty countries/regions and regions I found:
Most of them are only visible in the old page.

osu.ppy.sh/p/pp?c=A1 Anonymous proxy, has users.
osu.ppy.sh/p/pp?c=A2 Satellite Provider, "has" users.
osu.ppy.sh/p/pp?c=AP Asia-Pacific, has users.
osu.ppy.sh/p/pp?c=AQ Antartica, no users.
osu.ppy.sh/p/pp?c=EH Western Sahara, no users.
osu.ppy.sh/p/pp?c=EU Europe, has users.
osu.ppy.sh/p/pp?c=GS South Georgia and Sandwich Islands, no users.
osu.ppy.sh/p/pp?c=HM Heard and McDonald Islands, no users.
osu.ppy.sh/p/pp?c=IO British Indian Ocean Territory, no users. But there are a lot of ".io" in the web unrelated to that region.
osu.ppy.sh/p/pp?c=KP North Korea , has users (Theorethically impossible).
osu.ppy.sh/p/pp?c=TF French Southern Territories, no users.
osu.ppy.sh/p/pp?c=UM U.S Minor Outlying Islands, no users.
osu.ppy.sh/p/pp?c=VA Holy See, has users (Theoretically impossible).
osu.ppy.sh/p/pp?c=XX Weirdest one, has no name and no flag, has users.

So, how did they do that and why are these on database?

obviously spoofed their location when creating an account, although i can't find any of the 24 users that apparently have that flag.

others are probably just for if it can't find what their location is

I DO know that Holy See is Vatican City.

And I put Theorethically Impossible because the only way to live in Vatican City is by working there or being a Cardinal or The Pope.
I doubt someone would be let playing Osu! there, are there even cybercafés?

I saw someone from "North Korea" in Osu! some time ago, but it put "Toronto, Ontario" as location in its profile. :|

Also, South Sudan is missing. Theorethically it should be osu.ppy.sh/p/pp?c=SS but it appears as 0
Also with Bonaire "BQ" Curaçao "CW" Sint Maarten "SX". As far as i have seen, those living in these places will be registered as living in the Netherlands Antilles even though they were dissolved in 2010. Strangely, Aruba does have their own code "AW" and appears independent in the ranking.

There are some others I found:
osu.ppy.sh/p/pp?c=BV Bouvet Island, no users.
osu.ppy.sh/p/pp?c=KM Comoros, no users.
osu.ppy.sh/p/pp?c=WF Wallis and Futuna, no users.


I am only putting of those uninhabited, inhabited but with no users or impossible to live places. And only if "No users found" appears.
Strangely, United Kingdom uses GB instead of UK.

I suppose they were all included just because why not and avoid "my country flag doesnt exist" scenarios. Of course these were added long ago so some might not exist anymore or new ones are not on the list. Some are used due to proxies or just not being able to determine any location or specific region. They're not really causing any harm and if anyone has the wrong flag they can contact accounts@ppy.sh to request a flag change with evidence of citizenship.

Also United Kingdom's ISO code is GB (Great Britain).

They either live on islands which have a very small population but still count as countries or they are spoofing their location using VPN's to place them in another country when making their osu! account.

forgot to add this one, there is a user, he isn't active but he's part of the osu!team, the user is Zallius.
