Problem Details: Osu is stuck in an updating loop and I can't seem to fix it. I did all the normal troubleshooting, clean reinstall, run as admin, and changed the compatibility. Nothing worked so... how can I fixed this? I fixed it before but I have not touched Osu in like four months so I kinda forgot how to fix it.

osu! version: 20171227cuttingedge

This thread might solve your problem, just replace your osu!.exe with the installer, no reinstallation needed.

Did not help. Now it just keeps asking if I want to run the application, updates, closes, ask if I want to run the application, rinse and repeat.

Can you provide update.log located in osu!/Logs please

@Tobias

I don't have that. Matter of fact. I don't have half the files you showed in the screen shot. I just tried to do a clean reinstall to see if it would put the files in that I am missing but it did not work. https://gyazo.com/4142dc248909f74c53cf9b1117b28499

be sure to download osu to the default download location.

You can hold Shift while starting osu! and click repair osu!
Another option is to try to switch the Release Stream to something else.

What operating system are you on?

You can try downloading and putting this file into your osu! install manually https://drive.google.com/file/d/1x17jM9fnbyfbGM9vY6H54UXWECSILwlY/view?usp=sharing However, this is not an official file or download, so please attempt at your own risk.

Apparently, you can also just rename a text file to "discord-rpc.dll" but this hasn't been tested, nor is recommended. It may have adverse effects on your client. But if nothing else works, feel free to try it out if you really want to.

I am running windows vista. It came with the laptop when I got it. If Osu! unsupported Vista I understand because I am one of the very few people that still uses vista. Flanster, when I do the "hold shift and start osu!" that you recommended to try all it does is pull up the updater. Downloading the dll and changing a text file to "discord-rpc.dll" did not work.

Do you get any different errors or anything new or different in your update.log?

Did you hold Shift all the way until something popped up?

The normal update text doc I get adds then removes its self everytime osu goes to do the update loop.

Perhaps you can download the old installer, after its done it will update everything, hopefully this can break you out of the loop.

It fixed it. But it sucks that I seem to have lost 8gb worth of beat maps and at least 10+ skins. Oh well.
Flanster
Glad to hear its fixed. Keep in mind next time to backup your beatmaps/skins :(
Death
The default installation location for the old installer is Program Files x86, your maps are most likely still in Appdata.

You can copy the maps in your Songs folder from your installation in Appdata, and paste them into the Songs folder in Program Files. Hit F5 on the song selection screen after doing so.

The same applies to your skins, but you will need to restart the game after moving them.
