If you have been around anime for a decent period of time you are probably aware that it is often broken down into four distinct categories; Sekaikei, Sababukei, Nichijoukei and Iyashikei. Interestingly looking towards western fiction for analogues only Iyashikei is strangely absent which is possibly an explanation for it's unpopularity among western anime fans.

Sure series' like Aria and Yokohama have generated cult followings for themselves but Iyashikei is far from generating anything popular. With Aria barely past 30k completions on MAL.

Looking to the west Nature Documentaries are the only thing that captures the essence of what Iyashikei is all about but I can think of nothing within western fiction (maybe someone else knows something?) Of course that generally cautious nature of the western industry and obscurity of Iyashikei's appeal only hammer more nails into the coffin.

Any thoughts or maybe somebody knows of and Iyashikei indie film or something.

Not an answer to your question but this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npLVlJTH_mk delves into Japan's history with disaster and how iyashi-kei emerged from it. The first 3 parts are also highly interesting so I recommend you check those out first.
