Problem Details:
I've searched everywhere online and tried every method I saw, using Wine 1.4 and PlayOnLinux 4.2.1.
Running the osume.exe file does nothing, and when I try to install the windows installer on Wine or POL, Wine returns the error:
Error extracting 'SETUP_1.CAB': The file is not a cabinet.
Then POL says Wine crashed.

I really want osu! to work on my Linux  I'm trying to get rid of that awful Windows 8!

osu! version: 20131216.26

I got it to work! But it was a long winded journey XP
For future reference, after dotnet20 in winetricks wouldn't install, I found a forum with someone who had the same problem, and it was suggested that they completely uninstall wine and all its associated packages and reinstall wine 1.7 because there were multiple versions of wine installed. So then I created my wine prefix for 32-bit since .NET 2.0 won't install on 64-bit, and it installed. I copied all the d3d* files from a Windows XP VM successfully, but it took me a while to realize my WINEPREFIX was still in .wine and not .wine32, the one I set up. XD But after a lot of messing around, I got it to work! Thank you so much! :D

I came across a new problem though... it's just annoying, but it would be helpful if I could get a workaround.
I can't seem to run osu! without going to terminal, navigating to its directory in the wine prefix, and using wine 'osu!.exe'
I tried building a bash script that navigated to it and ran the command since double clicking doesn't work, but the terminal pops up and disappears immediately, and nothing happens afterward when I try to run it. Help?

Never mind, solved the issue. Wine still thinks the WINEPREFIX is set to .wine by default, and I can't seem to change that, but I found a workaround. I just built a shell script that would run the command for me, only adding .wine32 as a temporary prefix. I then made .desktop files to run the scripts without terminal by default. osu! now works completely, no issues, problem solved! Again, thank you!
