I had an idea for a mod where at certain points in a map, the cursor and hit objects will disappear from the screen for 5-10 seconds at a time. I thought it would be a good challenge for memorization and flashlight players.

that sounds like a bad idea. It incredible hard to memorize long parts of maps and the disappearing cursor would make it insanly hard. Also, tablet players would have a big advantage, due too their absolute positioning. And no input device should be superior if possible.

can't you just skin it by making the cursor animation invisible for a few frames?
