Combo colours should match the background image/video, and only way to do that right now is to either eyeball it, or use an external tool. It would be infinitely easier if there was a eyedropper tool (like in MS Paint!) to easily select colours from the screen.

keywords for search purposes: color pick eyedrop eye drop

For starters that isn't good since matching the colors with the background and players that use the beatmap combo colors might be ticked off.
You can still achieve this by opening your image editor (paint.NET, GIMP, for example) and use the color picker from there. Get the RGB values and copy them.

Aye, encouraging people to directly use background colours without modification would be a problem. That could be prevented by adding a simple palette generator, something like this:

  1. Single-click each slot in the original colours row, to bring up an eyedropper tool to pick colours from the background.
  2. A array of colours is generated, by changing the HSL values by x amount. Maybe have a name for each row, such as "pastel" for increased luminosity, "faded" for decreased saturation.
  3. Each row of colours can be dragged up or down the list, making it easy to compare with each other and the original colours.
  4. To select a colour to use as combo colour, single-click on it. To select an entire row, click on a ticky box at the side.
  5. The original colours can also be manually edited by double-clicking, to bring up the traditional colour editor.
