Six years have passed and i am still sucking hard at this game.(even with a bunch of useful improvement tips) There is no way for me to improve. Casual 4ever. :|

p.s

but anyways kudos for nice thread. i wish there was something like this gem back in 2010.

p.s2

is it normal that approaching circles seems distracting to me and i had to play with hidden all the time? it became kinda easier to play some maps with lots of notes yeah, but such thing never happened to me before.{and i used to play with hidden pretty often) am i going insane?
SilviA syndrome?

You hardly ever played from August 2012 to February 2015 so delete 3 years from saying "six"

Add this to accuracy as an easy way to practice: If you have really bad accuracy then just try to really look at the approach circles and really try to get acc that is above 97%, increase this minimum accuracy once you get better at it, capping out at 99%. Going for SS is useless for your general accuracy if you use a billion tries for it, so it's not worth the effort. Eventually something will click into place and accuracy will get easier.
added, thanks baby cakes.

Mostly played offline at the time.(switched to tablet and switched hands as well and was trying to get to the level of skill I achieved with mouse, still struggling with that task lol. probably main reason behind my problem with this game is that I stopped improving since switched to tablet. and zero stamina ofc) And btw 3 years more than enough to become decent player(for most people here) and even more than decent.(but not in my case apparently)

Actually the only key to be improve at osu is Practice a lot and challenge yourself. For CtB, only use dash when necessary or even in red fruit you have to control the catcher where he gonna teleport, also learn some usual pattern in ctb and know the mapper style. Spectactor's map your catcher gonna "swing" all over the time and it's full of red fruits, while JBHyperion's is in the other way, you have to be aware of non red fruits jump because you have to deal with a repetitive pattern or square in osu STD mode. Mazzerin's .... yah well just hold your dash until you fc that.
I have one clue if you use left shift button and keep annoy because sticky keys you can change that in Control Panel > Ease of Access > Ease of Access Center > Make the keyboard easier to use. Just turn uncheck the sticky keys. Also sometimes you can change the your key binding to improve your gameplay, also set your graphic in recommended setting.
So if you well enough to play ctb without mod, try one mod, I recommend you to play with Sudden Death mod first, and then the most common mod in CtB (Hard Diff++) is Hidden, and if you feel the song is too slow, use Double time mod. When you get well enough with Hidden or Double Time, try them both. And go try Hard Rock mod I know this one kinda hard because it elevate the Approach Rate, Overall Difficulty, Circle Size(Fruit Size) after that try to combine it with Hidden. The hardest mod in Ctb is Flashlight. Flashlight mode only playable in maximum Approach Rate=8.4 and after that only E.T or Alien can FC with that mod even with HR (True Story).
The last thing that I want to say is have your own skin or find a skin that you feel fit the most. Go stalk some pros in CtB some of them are generous, they share their own skin(Or their mix skin). If you really want to full combo a hard map (In CtB Difficulty) dim the background to 100% or if you just want to play for fun, just make sure the safest dim is in 30% (The lowest one). 0% Dim is not recommend because it very bright(even brighter with shadder) and can make your eyes hurt.
That's all I want to say, thank you for your atenttion

cool but that's wrong tbh

I mean you won't improve without any practice but you can learn and discover things that make you better without intensive practice or challenging yourself

I have no idea if this is a good place to ask, but here it goes.

I'm a relatively new player. I started a while back but just because a friend told me to. Then I took a long break and now I'm back because I realized how much I like this game. But I've been having problems with multiple notes before/after a slider (I noticed it playing Pendulum - Vulture on hard difficulty). How do I know how many times I have to press before/after I have to hold the key. It really throws me off. I know the key to everything in Osu! is practice practice practice, but how do I practice something I have no idea how to do. Any sort of help is really appreciated, thank you!

maybe with the clear approach circle (just like doomsday's skin) and bigger combo number can help, but actually you can predict it by feel the rhythm. :)

Yes! I changed some visuals (skin, background dim to black ETC.) to make the game more clear and now I can hit the most of the time! Thanks you :-)

Hello all. Maybe peoples before me asked for the same sort of problems over and over, but I want to find anwsers that fit me.
So... I'm playing osu for 4 month already, and I didn't improve anymore. Things qetting worse again and again...
I can barely pass 5* map and I don't have any solids scores. Maybe I rush too much into this game. Maybe I just want to get better fast, because damn... I love this game and I love try hard it. Playin' mostly offline.
I don't really know if I put my efforts in a wrong direction, playing maps which are maybe too hard for my level.
And I can't have an objective view of my level at this time. So I really need to know, what should I do ?
Thanks for all... And have a good night~

(sorry for my broken english, I'm better in comprehension than production.)

Well Aqo the trick is to practice accuracy in maps that you are able to FC ie. easier Insanes or just normal Insanes (it's pretty damn boring if you don't like it but it works)
that's what i do as well

What do you guys recommend for mitigating bad days? Some days I'd start at near peak while other I'd play for couple hours and have trouble getting high combos on familiar songs :( The problem persists in reading, aim and streams.

Try a change of pace. Play with/without different Mods, play much easier/harder difficulties, play some fun maps. Keep switching until you find whatever makes you comfortable at that point.

REAL men don't need NF to cursor dance! 8-)

They just fail the map and regret nothing

The correct definition of accuracy is your precision. (Shown in percentage)

wait so, your only concentrating on two notes at a time and ignoring the other 2 notes?

It's really strange but I get better every time I come back from a break in playing the game. Not as good as if I'd been consistently practicing but still not bad overall progression.

I bet this has been asked a lot, but I'm looking for advice specifically for breaking through that 4 star difficulty barrier. Approach circles are shorter and notes show up faster, and the beatmaps feel markedly different from their <4 star counterparts. Sometimes I can get through them with sheer luck, but it's never pretty haha. I know for sure one area of improvement I need to work on: stream (or just groupings of 5+) since my off finger seems to lag behind, but for the most part, I can follow the map with the mouse and my single taps are getting faster.

So tl;dr, best things to work on to break that 4 star barrier into Insane and above. Thanks guys!

Sounds like your problem is that you haven't adjusted to AR9 yet. If you're fine with AR8, then move up to AR8.5, once you get used to that, it'll be easier to adjust to AR9.

If you're fine with bursts of 3, then all that's left is to practise more bursts of 5 until you can 300 each note 90% of the time (stick to AR8 or less for this since you can't handle AR9 yet).

I'll be sure to look at the AR levels and try more beatmaps with 5+ bursts. Thanks so much!

Hello! Well, i kind of have a problem with my progress in Osu! and im not sure what should i do about it.
It's like i have about 200-250 beatmaps collection that i constantly play with F2 button, sometimes sth new but usually nope, and every time i play the map, felt that combo was good, i just dont control myself click that retry and play a map too much. It does start to bother me because it happens much more often with every day. Simply, my mind really wants to, but i cannot break the 5.8-6 star maps wall, im too inconsistent in jumps etc. I've researched my progress in last half of a year (oh and i have a tablet for 9 months now because i was stuck on ~4.5star maps on mouse). About progress - accuracy grows nice from 96% in March-April on 5-5.5 maps there is 98-99% but! there is almost exactly (even slightly worse) situation with high bpm jumps, wide screen jumps, etc these harder jumps. I even found a replay when i am jumping better on godmode in January 2016 (2 weeks after that i got tablet!!). What does it seem? Im reading this and the answer that comes to me is that i reached my limits... Dunno what to do really.
Oh and when i was on the flow in January-March, getting that pp, good scores FC, because tablet helped me, i didnt even thnik about retrying maps 100 times. It comes to me when im stagnant. Stagnation doesnt come because of retrying. You get the algorytm.
Is simply "dont retry, just play random maps and dont retry them, play new maps" might work? It feels that im stagnant in my capability for around 2 years, just tablet pushed the border a little more far.

PS: Oh and i bought supporter, i will try to play 90% time multiplayer, maybe that will help. I will be forced to not-retrying and will be playing new maps often.

Looking for advice, thanks in advance :)

Remove "Retry" button graphic from your skin
DarthSmith
Well i lured and lied there non-intentionally. I dont exactly click the retry button, i click the ESC to stop the map and ~ to reset, deleting graphic won't work. Got anything else on mind?
Endaris
Close osu!
Go into your osu!folder.
Open the osu!.Username.cfg in the editor.
Press Ctrl+F.
Type quickretry
Change the key after it to a key that doesn't exist on your keyboard or at least you don't know where it is - F13 works for me (my keyboard doesn't have F13 or at least I don't know which key would trigger it).
Voila, you won't trigger retries by habitual keypressing anymore.
If you use a keycode that osu! doesn't like it will just revert to ~ so you might have to try a bit.
You can find a list of keycodes per key here: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/librar ... .keys.aspx
DarthSmith
Thanks for that one more time.
And if i wanted to delete Retry button. Is it possible to do that? Not only graphic? Or i don't know placing it in so random place that i will not click it, like upper left corner of the screen

EDIT: OK i dealt with this problem. If someone would like to do the same thing, just change "pause-retry" buttons to 1x1 px square. U wont hit that :D
