This is an often problem for me, most files when downloaded are downloading at a horribly slow speed. 20-40 Kb/s

Consider getting Supporter.

The downloads are balanced by mirrors, which differ in location and speed.
Piotrekol
^this
or download beatmap packs(with shouldn't be a problem with your internet speed).
or... pmed
peppy
Either way it should not be this low (this person contacted me by email so I suggested they post here).
I made some tweaks to settings today; did it help at all?

Yes, it's much better then what I was receiving before. It's around 300 KB/s.

Thanks

GladiOol
I'm still getting random 11-15 minute downloads on maps as well and I do am supporter.

For example this map: http://osu.ppy.sh/s/48366

edit: Oh wow, what are the odds that the topic was already about this map. I do get this sometimes on other maps as well though.

peppy
For what it's worth, every time I try either of the active beatmap mirrors it maxes my line (860KB/s). This hardly ever happens for me. The beatmap mirrors operate under capacity at all times and should never be slow. Non-supporters should never expect less than 200KB/s unless there is an issue with routing somewhere out of my control.

Have you looked into using a CDN such as Amazons Cloudfront or MaxCDN?

Or possible even Amazons S3.

Have you looked into the pricing? (Hint: it's expensive and I would go bankrupt in days)

I have, and then just realizing how much data you probably actually serve a month.

This sounds like it could be an ISP specific thing. I have heard that UK ISPs like to transparently proxy some connections.

Just for a general tip if people come back here wondering the same thing...

I remember having issues downloading from certain sites. I would get regular speeds in most places, but certain sites would be horrendous. After a year and a half of dealing with this, I learned that my router's firmware was horribly out of date. A quick google search told me how to update it, and now all of the sites work.

The only thing I can presume is that it's server locations.

I've done speedtests to Utah and Texas and get roughly about 2-3Mbp/s. When using speedtest mini on the server I manage in the US(Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) I get around 10-18Mbp/s (http://www.gamezgalaxy.com/speedtest.html)

Havent really downloaded a map in the past month but last night I tried and got terrible speeds...like 20-30kb/s. Figured it might of been load so I just went to bed...went to download another map today and got the same problem. I have a 3meg connection, max dl speed of around 350kb/s

If it's 3 Megabit connection then that is your normal speed.

Sorry, derp on my part. Misread what you wrote.

Confirmed that updating router wireframe worked, at least for me. I was using an old version and after the update the download speed returned to 700kb/s from 40-60kb/s, the same I had a week ago.

EDIT:
After a second download, the speed returned to 40-60 kb/s. :(

RE-EDIT:
The only way to get a fast normal speed for me is trying multiple times the same download. Usually after 2-4 attemps the beatmap is downloaded fast!
