I seem to have lost some skill within a week. A week before last week I was able to get past the first part of this map: https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/376293#mania/823842 without EZ or NF. Now I am unable to read the latter half of the first section.

Not sure what's going on here, but I seem to have had a really good week that week. I took a week long break after that, until today.

Recommendations for improvement?

so you took a break, and immediately tried a map you were already struggling with expecting to do good from the getgo... bruh

ight first of all, you really shouldnt be playing maps so far out of your comfort zone expecting to do good at them, if you do it for fun then oke, have at it, but this doesnt seem the case and that's bad

second mistake which combined with the first one is a BIG ONE, is it seems you're really focused on this map, which is no good, seeing your profile I see 133 replays so I'll tell you, focusing so much on a specific map and playing it every single day or every 2 days will only let you down, you'll see no improvement in such a short period of time and will only demoralize you and crush your confidence which will only keep you from improving

So ye I advice you to stop doing those, because they're prolly the heaviest mistakes u can make playing this, and for actually improving, like always, just play many different maps that arent too hard nor too easy for you, play patterns youre bad at instead of avoiding them to get used to them without going overboard with the difficulty, but most importantly, be optimistic

for unrusting personally I just play a few normal maps and then a stamina map to fully wake me up, tho really just playing should do

but ye, in the end mania is just a patience and mental endurance game tbh, you'll only lose once you've given up

get consistent at what you can play before you try to move onto what you can't play.

youll save yourself a lot of time and frustration in the long run
