I have found myself replacing the world ‘while’ with ‘whilst’.


Why?


-It rolls of the tongue better

-It sounds posh

-People think you own your own private swimming pool whilst you say it (which I do)




There really isn’t a reason to NOT replace ‘while’ with ‘whilst’.

it may take a whilst before this word becomes commonplace and polished in english, though

I think while takes precedence over whilst when it's preceded by "a": a while is correct; a whilst is not. Other than that, you can replace while with whilst as you please.

whilst "whilst" is extant in the midst of conjoined instances, whilst is not commonly referred to, not whilst "whilst" is considered as it is. whilst should be a bit more properly addressed whilst we discuss it.
