Image choice for a background and copyrights

I'm new to beatmapping and I'm making my first serious project. That means my mapset will of course have to comply to the ranking criteria, including the fact that I need a background. However, I have no idea about where to look at for a background image that I'm allowed to use and what my restrictions are when it comes to how I use it.

I would really appreciate to receive help to make sure I handle this correctly to avoid any trouble.

Here's a few tips form the wiki:

  1. Background images must not exceed a width of 2560 pixels, a height of 1440 pixels, and a filesize of 2.5MB
  2. You must have a background image on every difficulty of your beatmap.

As far as copyright goes, make sure you link the source when using copyrighted works and try and contact the artist of possible.

I use https://wallpaperscraft.com/ as a source for many maps but you can use a different source if you want.

I don't know if you HAVE to have non copyrighted work for the background but i'm assuming since the ranking criteria says nothing about copyright you should be fine using whatever art as long as you give credit.

Hope this helps!
