1) Open a read thread.
2) Move it to another forum.
3) Observer that the thread is marked as unread.

Is there a specific case where this is annoying? I know for a fact that it doesn't happen for the automated feature requests/bug reports move process.

Personally I don't think this is worth fixing. I'd rather change as little as possible when it comes to phpbb.
