Hi guys, came to request some suggestions. My favorite anime is Ouran High School Host Club, and some of the reasons I like it so much is that it pokes fun at a lot of genre conventions and I love how unique the characters are. Could anyone suggest animes with atypical (and likable) characters that also break away from what is normal for their genres?
Danshi Kokosei no Nichijou, Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita, and (to an extent, simply due to a memorable cast and very silly nature) School Rumble.Moway wrote:

lol, I only know Mononoke Hime so when you write Mononoke in your post I automatically think about the movie one. Still, it's a pleasant misunderstanding cause I fairly enjoy Mononoke HimeMogsworth wrote:
Also, Sallad4ever: I didn't mean Mononoke Hime (although it is my favourite of Miyazaki's work!), but just Mononoke, the spin-off of Ayakashi. It's VERY similar to Mushi-shi.

I'm looking for comedy anime with preferably catgirls (and maids are never a minus). Only similar anime that I have watched is Mayoi Neko Overrun!. I tried watching Nyan-koi but I didn't like that.
Mayo Chiki! is the anime for you! Maids + comedy = one hell of an ride.[AsunaYuuki] wrote:

What I'm trying to get at by quoting the OP here is to not leave a list of "this is stuff I like go watch this now". We're supposed to be fulfilling search criteria from a poster, not just...offering blanket suggestions. There are guides on many websites for titles major anime fans should watch to just be in the know, so doing things like quoting those here does not help anyone (maybe adding lists like those to the OP would help).ampzz wrote:
...we move on to the part of offering suggestions to particular users which is simpler if you do something that includes:
- Try to break up certain aspects of your suggestion list by grouping similar anime together or, if they're after multiple genre requests, group them into their respective labels.
Some people prefer being able to organise their plan-to-watch lists by watching one genre type at a time.- Possibly give your own short take on the anime titles which doesn't have to be much, even a few words is better than nothing at all.
- Take into consideration of which anime they've listed as already seen or the comparative title they're after.
- Offer a few anime titles at a time, even if they are the OVA of the same named anime title as most people might skip OVA, OAD or movies since they didn't know about them.
A good response would be the following:Request wrote:
I watched and liked Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, and Black Lagoon. Where should I go next?
A mediocre response would be the following:Suggestion wrote:
I would suggest both seasons of Jormungand (Jormungand and Jormungand Perfect Order). They have a heavy focus on action, deal with bouts of moral ambiguity, feel very different from most other action anime, and have a mature look and feel to them. The emphasis on gunplay in its action make it more similar to Bebop and Black Lagoon compared to Champloo, but the fight choreography is still there and rather intense.
A bad response would be the following:Suggestion wrote:
Watch Jormungand! It's full of action and Koko is a badass.
An off-kilter response would be:Suggestion wrote:
Watch Jormungand Koko is my waifu
Notice that offering a more detailed suggestion would be able to possibly highlight elements of the show that people liked. It's a matter of finding plenty of similarities between titles, whether that'd be tonally, plot-wise, character-wise, animation-quality-wise, and so on. Generally, the more things two shows have in common while still being their own thing, the better the suggestion is. If they ask about a show you don't know about and don't provide detail on what they liked about it, do some research. Reading a plot synopsis/reviews on sites like Anime News Network or MAL generally can aid in making better suggestions.Suggestion wrote:
Um...Eureka Seven has action and nice animation, maybe check that out?
The only one I can think of is BECK.Irisu wrote:
I'm trying to find a good anime that's emotional, but in the genre of shounen. Any suggestions?
Great Teacher Onizuka is a VERY silly comedy, very much in line with Nichijou in terms of its silliness, but not its over-the-top nature.ishimaru94 wrote:
Any suggestions for me to find a comedy anime besides Nichijou? :<
You've already seen Ouran High School Host Club, so not really. I kinda hesitantly recommend Code:Breaker, but I haven't finished it, so I can't fully get behind it. It's definitely a reverse harem, but the romance is definitely not the focus.DX5536 wrote:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Btooom!
Summary: Ryōta Sakamoto is an unemployed 22-year-old who lives with his mother. In the real world, there may be nothing really special about him, but online, he's one of the world's top players of the combat game called Btooom!. One day, he awakes in what appears to be a tropical island, though he has no memory of how or why he has come to be there. While wandering around, Ryōta sees someone and calls out for help. The stranger responds by throwing a bomb at him. Ryōta soon realizes both that his life is in danger and that he has somehow been trapped in a real-life version of his favorite game. In the game Ryota meets Himiko, who is another Btooom! gamer — and supposedly Ryota's in-game wife.

Start Madoka
Start High School DxD
Start Maid-Sama
Start Ika Musume S2
Start Steins;Gate

Anything happens afterwards depending how I feel.
Is there anything I should change/add/drop?
Also, I'm planning on dropping OHSHC. It doesn't settle well for me at all, and I only watched it because I was told by someone I was fond of to watch it, but that's since failed. Good idea y/n
