I have the same question in my modding queue.
However I'd like a larger sample size for my question

To be specific about my question I refer to this



When I refer to the background I mean only the part your able to see whilst scrolling through song select.

Feel free to post your opinions or justify your responses, I'm interested in seeing what you guys have to say <3

It actually matters.

If you are into creating meaniungful maps, BG should be considered heavily.

Background of a map is the first thing to see before playing the map or even listening to the song. It helps players to know the theme of the song or the map so it's important.

I don't really care to be honest, the songs are much more important for me!

for the most part, its not a big deal, because in the end i play with like 98% dim anyway.

For aesthetical choices, i will usually prefer the left part. but as for gameplay choices (mania in my case), right part might particularly works quite better because by default, mania lanes are on the left. I think seeing the emphasis on the background while you playing is what makes it meaningful and sometimes could be memorable / iconic.

like 2% of the time it does for me.

The song should be the main reason why you self motivate yourself to play the beatmap.

The background doesn't really reflect the quality of the map, a lot of good maps also have good backgrounds, but anyone can slap some notes into the editor and google a cool background.

I don't really mind. I only get a bit bothered when they could have put something relating to the song, but instead put some anime girl.

Like that GHOSTEMANE - Mercury beatmap BG. Bugs me a bit.

I play with 100% dim and I only care about the music. Backgrounds are distracting!

yeah if I see some loli stuff I delete the map immediately. I can't be seen playing that shit and even if no one's watching it makes me feel like I'm committing a crime just by playing the map.
