Problem details:
all the sudden osu started the damn updater again, and now its stoppin/looping at 76% at best. I think it downloads about 4 files out of 15 and then restarts. i use windows xp. i tried to skip the updater by startin with replay and stuff, deleted the update files, nothing works

Video or screenshot showing the problem:

osu! version: Stable 20190226.2 (latest)

Without an update.log it's going to be hard to say. Please find that file in your osu! folder, and post the contents of it here.

Since you are on XP, it's more than likely that the game is failing to either download or move (no idea which one) the discord-rpc.dll file. Which is a common issue among XP users (it's still not a supported OS as I'm sure you are aware from your previous posts), like in this thread and this thread.

If this is indeed the issue, try what Dntm8kmeeatuposted in those threads I linked:

You can manually download and put the required file into your osu! folder. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1x17jM9fnbyfbGM9vY6H54UXWECSILwlY/view?usp=sharing (that should be the required file) do know this is not an official download / fix, attempt at your own risk.

Apparently you can also just create a blank file and name it "discord-rpc.dll" and it'll "work". Though this may have adverse effects to your client. But I haven't seen any reported.

i like how death is totally nonchalant about that one tab in the screenshot

by "file", is it a folder? what type of file is it?

Are you talking about the update.log that I asked for or the discord-rpc.dll thing I was talking about?

update.log is a file inside your osu!\Logs folder. It is a text file which means you can open it in notepad and just directly copy the contents of it to here, or you can just upload the whole thing if you want.

discord-rpc.dll is also just a single dll file.

i put the update file in the screenshot link, and downloading that didn't work.

whats a dll file? sorry im such a noob

I forgot to say, it also failed to update in my school computer, which is windows 10. Osu! is in my usb.

Don't worry about the dll file because the error you are getting is unrelated to my initial guess.

Actually, the error you are receiving is another issue only reported in the past by people on XP, but pretty much every single thread is archived with no confirmed solution. I don't know what the fix is (if there is one), but it probably is network related in some way? If you have any AV software installed on your computer or some firewall enabled, now would be a pretty good time to create an exception for osu! in them.

Here are some of the threads I found, because they have different suggestions in them that you could try. Some of the logs in these posts are slightly different than what you've posted, but I think the suggestions are applicable anyway, so I've included them.
  1. https://osu.ppy.sh/community/forums/topics/535329 (everything in the last post on this thread is what I also found when trying to figure out what the error you are getting means, but the OP never responded... so we'll never know if it worked I guess)

I can't tell you why the game failed to update on your school computer without an update.log for that specific instance either. There's a good chance that can also be network related... because you are using a public, school network if I had to guess.

our school wifi is rlly good, but i might have to uninstall and redownload i guess..

btw, for future problems/references, my buggy/invisible slider problem was somehow solved by putting the game in widescreen. ehh who cares i can't load the game

ill keep tryin random stuff like last time if it works, if i mess it up ill have to reinstall

unlike others i'll keep up with the updates

I'm not saying the wifi is bad, I'm saying there could be something on the network that is causing issues or preventing you from downloading/updating the game in general.
