Ladder system is just bad for osu, a rhythm game. No one's gonna bother, it'll suck not having to play the songs you like, at your own pace, using the mods you like (read: solo play).

Also why do we need automated rankings to tell us 100% who the best player is again?
Deal with it. Judge by watching replays and spectating.

tl;dr this is as accurate as it gets.

You still don't get it.

Pick any pro player that can do super DTs. Ask him to FL some map he DT'd, they gonna be able to get it in enough plays.
Pick any pro player that can do super FLs. Ask him to DT some map he FL'd, they won't be able to DT it probably. Unless it's a stupid low BPM map that everyone can DT FC in a single play... then fuck you go do DT FL instead of FL HD SS lol.

With FL you need to put an enormous amount of time for each map, when you are a skillful player you don't need to put several hours on doing DT FC on some hard map (if it's even doable). If you want to talk about skill, then leave FL out of discussions because that "skill" is called grinding, just as you play some MMO and kill the same stupid mobs for days, that doesn't mean you're pro it just means you got asian patience to do the same thing eternally.

Well I don't know about you guys but I wouldn't be able to FL jumpy maps even if I tried them a hundred thousand times.

I just lack the skill in FL to do that.

heck, I couldn't even FC an ''easy'' insane map if FL is on. No matter how many times I would play it.
Memorising a map is skill imo.

It's all about memorizing it, you need to play it hundreds of times. Remember how Lyby FC'd masterpiece? It took him like a week of playing that map during hours and hours, it even takes Mesita thousands of plays to do his FL scores lol, and some of them like Gold Dust took him MONTHS.

Have you played a jumpy map with FL 200 times and you still can't do it at all?

But anyway, this ranking will probably be the best we'll ever get. Unless peppy hires the people in lunatic's top 20 video to fly around the world and personally inspect every player to assign him/her a rank, we're never going to get a true measure of skill. Skill is too subjective. It's too hard to put a player who can FC 180 bpm maps on DT and another player who can SS OD8 maps on HR + HD or something on the same scale. As long as the ranking is done by a formula, someone's gonna be able to exploit it. There will be good players with low rank and farmers with high rank, and everyone is going to complain. Besides, everyone knows the top players, anyway, and what they can do.

So how many times did said pro players play 140bpm maps with DT? I'm not saying that particular map he did in 1 or 2 plays, I'm talking about the progress of getting to that point of skillevel. It's probably a whole amount more than the amount of plays that went into an FL score.

I'm just saying that if a player can FC a 140bpm map with DT in a few tries, it's "essentially" the same as a player that can FC a map with FL in a few times, because they're both a skill aquired after a certain amount of grinding.

Well, that's how I see it anyway.

Let's use | as one practice(one playcount) on one map, but fail to FC. Let's use x as one success FC on one map.

FL:

DT:

As you can see, they both require time to get the desired rank. The difference is: FL needs time on each map, but when you practise enough on DT, you should be able to fc it pretty *efficiently*.

When you compare a DT player and FL player, DT player should have more #1-#10 than a FL player. And that is reflected in the ??? ranking pretty nicely. Remember azuraer is only #5 there.

Peppy has done a really nice job here. Once the map difficulty problem is solved, the ??? rank will become more reliable and normal hard #1 farmers will be gone.
