I should probably try that, instead of trying to form a well-reasoned argument. Nobody ever listens!

When whistles are on every single note.

I can handle it in this (7x7x7) but not at all in happy30's diff here. I can't actually hear the song over all that crap.

Also squares. They never fit the song.

wow rude
GiraffePants
Multiple spinners in rapid succession, spinners that only last half of a second, sliders that change velocity when it makes no sense and slow AR.

I don't really mind squares that much... as long as there aren't more than two in a row :P

I fixed the whistle problem (even on Droid, where I'm usually playing). The newfound hated technique? Normally spaced 'streams'. Stuff like this:
I can play compressed streams, and I can press most streams, but these things I just hate with a passion, they're all nicely spaced, but they play fast, and while I can hit 'em, I can't get 'em perfect. Mind it's an 'easy' map, but it's one of those things that really make me want to quit practicing songs :(. I wouldn't be so put off by it if I could at least play it on droid, but I can't, for the life of me, get 'em right, regardless of how well I can perform on other songs, like http://osu.ppy.sh/s/79498 or http://osu.ppy.sh/s/39325 , those streams don't work for me. Doesn't matter how I get into 'em :(. At least they're not as frequent in the maps I like to play.
I'd complain about jumps, but jumps can either make you or break you, so it's a to each their own thing. Some are well done, others... not so much. :)

SHARP TURNS ON SLIDERS WHICH DON'T GO TO ANYTHING IN THE SONG
RAGE RAGE RAGE JFBVTYFVDC^DVYyGYGFBSGNH*SUEFSENUNEhfsrngsrhng9ernmzuegSGISRU

Now that that's out of the way.
lots of little things
* High hp drain with too little notes (The Island (MaxNRG Remix))
* Grid snap when placing literally everything.
* Copypasta of large sections in the map, even when they're flipped. It gets really boring, really fast.
* Unexpected SV changes, except to emphasize something with a long slider.
* Really obvious notelimiting (Roko-Don's Taiko from StrangeProgram is simply awful). When done right it can be impressive - Ascension to Heaven, Warheit.
* Long intro sections that are much easier to hit than everything else - there used to be one in Atama no Taisou
* Heck, everything about Atama no Taisou.
* He Has No Mittens.
* Inconsistent jumps - a jump in one portion of a song, but the same part later on does not have a jump. Parts of the song that sound similar should "feel" similar, but not identical.
* Spinners over a measure which "should" be mapped or doesn't need a spinner - intro of With a Dance Number
* Breaks where there shouldn't be any - intro of With a Dance Number
* SV and spacing mismatch on faster songs - intro of With a Dance Number
* Busy or very bright backgrounds - With a Dance Number, No,39
* Custom skins that suck - Impossible (Nightcore Mix). Usually these end up forcing old-style hitburst behavior, which is impossible to read.
* Requesting you to download a skin for the "best experience".
* Star patterns where there shouldn't be any. For some reason I like the ones in The Creator [Saten] though, maybe because they are actually challenging to hit
* Mapsets where every diff ends at a different point/one diff is much longer - Clint Eastwood
* Title text showing up when not in a break/intro
* Countdowns
* Lead-in time.
* Mapping with distance snap turned off the whole time and calling it "Insane" (No pain, no game)
* Fast-moving streams (>0.9 distance snap)
* Slow-moving streams and fast-moving streams in the same map.
* Auto-stacking. I really like how Haru Haru uses 0 stack leniency to pull off some cool patterns. Sadly, I don't think it's rankable now?
* Following the music too well in irregular sections (Ascension to Heaven)
* Overmapping
* Undermapping
* Things that require a SB warning
* SBs that simply change the background image for no reason at all

tl;dr things that don't fit the music

I played a little more, and squares can be cool as long as they're not any faster/larger than Nemis's squares, they fit the music, and there is no more than 1 in a row.

pretty simple but this always gets me everytime
Samothrace
Not sure how to exactly call it, but jumps that go 1 - 2 - 1 and the 2 have the same timing space as the 1.
I can do it when it's only 1 set, but put in 2+ in a row and it gets sloppy.

Also 2 note jumps i guess

El Koko
I hate it when beatmaps have beats.

On a serious note, I hate 2-note stacks and sudden slider speed changes. This beatmap is a perfect example.
Soinou
I hate things like this :

The line of beats.

Don't know why, but i can't do things like these. I always fail at one of these stupid circles.
Golfdinger
What annoys me most is when there's no techniques at all, like most maps that get ranked.
Soinou
Dunno why, but it seems to me there's a name that begins with a A behind what you said, but it's surely just my imagination :3.

( And i agree with you, these maps are so horrible )
Overwrite
I find it strange that everyone is blaming the squares (they're pretty funny to play actually), and not a lot of people actually find jumpstreams (those normally-spaced streams of circles) annoying.
Also:
  1. Sudden streams when there wasn't a single one in the map. Especially when it doesn't even fit the song.
  2. Long and fast streams (such as Ascension to Heaven, even though on this song I find it pretty fitting)
  3. Spinners you can't even 300. (Example)
  4. To finish, most beatmaps from 2007-2008 and early 2009's (I know there wasn't probably a lot of things back there to make the beatmap pretty) make me cringe. Especially because some of them didn't even have the right offset ಠ_ಠ

squares are only annoying to a lot of people because they are the bane of their FC on certain maps, or the bane of their passes.

either way, certain squares are hard to snap too, though I got the same problem with pentagons and hexagons as well. gg
I doubt they actually think that squares are a retarded way to map. nor do I think that way either.

i'lll probably get mobbed to death if i say i like 2009 DJpop-style maps and that one map by mtmcl (astrosexy). i kinda wished such maps appear on the latest ranked ones, but we always get "loopy, wavy and curved" clones everytime. :<

I've seen squares well done, and I've seen tornadoes that make you wonder. I've also seen circle jumps that would make anyone cringe, but play quite well. People hate on squares for no reason it'd seem. Then there's the not fitting in the song part, but a lot of maps don't actually feel like they fit the song :(. Maybe I have a crappy selection, but I feel some maps don't do justice. Then there's Tsukasa - Accelerator, that thing is just heaven. But yeah, squares are pretty, when they're well done (SHIKI - Lapis on Another diff).
Dumie
-super long streams
-even number stacks
-any map that doesn't follow the music =3=
Lanturn
On Easy/Normal diffs.

Unless this has a name, I call it the 'Clap Disease'

These circles are really really uncomfortable to hit, which is odd because you'd think hitting a clap note would be simple enough. This is the number one cause of accuracy loss in Easy/Normal diffs XD

This picture comes from this beatmap (TuEasy diff) Notice how rarely anyone has 100% on what should be a pretty simple song, as it is very easy to follow.
BlackStat
Hiding sliders directly under sliders, along with a quick beat between them.

Besides this, anyone hate when a custom skin is in place and is horrible in contrast to the back ground? Retardly bright circles with a white back ground really make me steam.

I don't see how these should be hard to hit if they're done properly and there's a downbeat to start them off. It even makes more musical sense to "clap" on the backbeat.
Hoax_old
I despise long sliders... Not needed
Fahe
High hp drain. I agree with the fact that you shouldn't be able to pass a map with 70/75% accuracy, but unable to pass a map with roughly 90% gets on my nerves <_<
OsuMe65
Big Brother sliders
theleoleole
I hate... SO FAR JUMPS xD

and.... some random pattern maybe>.<
Tenyante
Minisliders.
lyut
Tornado Jumps
Setsuen
1. Streams (*Just started trying insane map and fail at streams because I either 300's them or accidentally MISS*)
2. Sudden slider velocity change like in Blackhole-Pluto
3. Short slider with a reverse arrow that reverse 8193891238times.
4. Hit circles that like to hide in between sliders
5. Consecutive curvy sliders that overlap each other a little
6.LONGG Jump
7.4Consecutive spaced hit circles.(I can do 3 but when it comes to 4 I have a 50%chance of missing 1 of them)

Luckily I have no issues with Star patterns.... yet..

MAPS WITH A FAST HP DRAIN THAT PUT A 5 SECOND HP KILLER IN THE SONG RIGHT BEFORE THE END THAT WILL CAUSE YOU TO FAIL ARE THE WORST THING EVER CREATED
aBunny
fast singles like these:

heck, it doesnt even have to be fast. it can be slow and ill miss all of them
AstralPhnx
Streams, of any way shape or form. Their just a pain in the ass. I can NEVER seem to hit them correctly. Long streams are even worse. Also those streams that are not related to any beat in the music in any way and are just there to be annoying. Why have a stream that isn't even in time with the music?!?
Multtari
Going back and forth, might be able to do them couple of times but everything after that is certain miss or fail.

Gigantic O.T.N (S.S) would be best example of this, almost passed at first try now i can't get past start because of those.

Airman has some of those too
kyun_DELETED
Really small bouncing sliders. Trying to FC a song with those are always a pain.
Myke B
I hate singling val's maps, because of his slider technique, but I love to alternate them, and their always fun to play. I just don't like alternating if I don't have to ><
Zexion
Sudden slider velocity changes. Seriously, WHY would you change the SV because YOU believe it fits the song where everyone else can't feel any changes in the tempo whatsoever. That only breaks your combo (and makes me rage in the process). Special mention for insane HP drain.
Redon
Ryu Sei
Deathstream. That's enough for me to fail a track.
Nyxa
- Maps where the mapper is trying too hard to be original, and wind up being annoying to play. Generally have weird patterns that take a few plays to learn the flow of.
- When the sv doesn't fit the BPM. It doesn't play all too terribly, but just feels weird. Don't do it.
- Shrinking/expanding squares/diamonds/triangles. For some reason I can do Saten's expanding+rotating star and circle jumps, but those other shapes are beyond me.
- Tornado jumps.
- Awkward streams. This would be streams with notes randomly sticking out in places, or making unintuitive curves. It's already hard enough to stream accurately. Not annoying on slower maps, if done right.
- Stacks on sliderends, but those are only annoying with HD.
- Sliderstreams, especially when they're spaced out badly. Sliders just make streams harder, unless they're "safety net" kick sliders.
- Triple spam.
- Singletap streams, or however you call those long ropes of evenly spaced singles. You move across them like a regular slider, but they're incredibly hard to follow when there's a lack of feedback.
- Fullscreen jumpspam. Self-evident.
- Expanding linear jumps. Can be found at around the 60% point of Airman. Terrible to play, especially near the bottom of the screen.
- AR9 on maps that should've been AR10. This is definitely the most annoying thing out of all of this. Goes for most 0108 maps, and maps like Distorted Lovesong. Once you start spamming notes at 240BPM, you should realize that AR10 is necessary. People bitching about AR10 shouldn't lead mappers to just put AR9 on everything that isn't 360BPM. Then again, I even think Freedom Dive should've been AR10, so maybe that's just me.
