After going through the mildly irritating process of adding all my pp from maps using osu ranks on my profile I discovered I had 1316, however on my profile it says I have just 525. Is this happening to anyone else, or is there something that I am missing?

You're not talking the weighing system into account. your plays are weighed on a percentage where you gain 100% of the pp for that play for your top play, and every play below that is worth 5% less than the one above it. You can't just add up the PP values that are blue on your profile. You need to add up the value that's in parentheses. You can read more about how the weighing system works and find an example here.
On top of that, the new profile pages don't even show you the weighted values of your scores. Once again a terrible design choice.
