Post anything related to light novels here.

For those that have no idea what a light novel is, here is a quick excerpt from wiki:
A light novel is a style of Japanese novel primarily targeting junior high and high school students....They are typically not more than 40,000–50,000 words long (the shorter ones being equivalent to a novella in US publishing terms), rarely exceed 200 pages, are usually published in bunkobon size, and are often illustrated.
Basically they are fun books to read, and like most books, some of these get extremely popular and get animated. As a result, there are people out there who love comparing the light novel and the anime series or reading ahead to see what is going to happen. Whatever the case, there is something for everyone...Yeah, that is it. Go, discuss, and have fun.

( I have a feeling this will become a IS/Index thread, but who knows xD)

I feel guilty watching Fate/Zero before reading it.

Also, we might as well start with: "What light novels do you guys suggest?"

T_T, need to read Fate/Zero.... (forgot that was a LN)

Whatever, my recommendations:
Hidan no Aria (mostly I love Riko's trolling)
IS: Infinite Stratos

Other things I read:
Accel World
C^3
High School DxD
Toaru Majutsu no Index (sadly only first 3 volumes)
Seitokai no Ichizon
ampzz
Claiming ownership of IS volumes one through to seven.
Awaiting confirmation of when the eighth volume will be released and then that will be yet another purchase to be done.

Either way, I read/ have read quite a variety of light novels on the side of all my other otaku habits:
  1. IS: Infinite Stratos
  2. Gekkou

  12. Kara no Kyoukai
  13. Hidan no Aria
  14. Kamisama no Memochou
  15. Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai

  17. Dantalian no Shoka

  19. Mimizuku to Yoru no Ou
  20. The World God Only Knows
  21. Mushi to Medama
  22. Date A Live
  23. Seitokai no Ichizon
  24. Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu
  25. Durarara!!

  28. Chrome Shelled Regios
  29. Kaze no Stigma
  30. Tabi ni Deyou, Horobiyuku Sekai no Hate Made
  31. PuiPui
I think this is an up-to-date list of what I have read/ am reading currently...

I was reading CubexCursedxCurious until the translation for it abruptly stopped, same with some other minor titles I've forgotten about which weren't really interesting anyhow.

Bold titles are personal favourites.

I really enjoy being able to read up about a series all well before they ever get an animation announcement (take IS for example) and it helps know quite a damn bit more information about a particular series and what should have been animated but usually doesn't. :'(

If anyone's after a suggestion; hit me up. :D

Though I'm not an avid reader of LN, I feel guilty for it too (I never knew that it's a LN)

If anyone is after a quite enjoyable and starter for their light novel endeavours give Gekko a try.

Taken from Baka-Tsuki:

Gekkou, or "Moonlight", is about the peculiar relationship between a cynical boy and a perfect girl.

Said cynical boy is Nonomiya who spends day in day out in boredom, taking refuge from his dull life in his imagination. One fateful day, he happens upon the notebook of the much-rumored beauty Youko Tsukimori, neglected on the ground. Poking out from it is a scrap of paper with the unexpected title "Murder Recipe". His interest ignited, he immediately stuffs it into his pocket, only to find out the promising recipe contains nothing but scenarios that may or may not lead to deadly accidents, not even worthy of being called a plan.

When he tentatively asks her about it the next day, she hasn't lost anything. But then her father dies. An accident...
This particular title is only eleven chapters long which comprises the full one volume worth.

The characters themselves are portrayed in text very well with enough imagination from yourself you can actually visualise most, if not all of this story as it unfolds and draws you in.

I found that the cast is also very likeable:

- Nonomiya was a very indifferent male protagonist with a unique personality that made it interesting to read his perception.
- Youko came off very nicely as a mysterious person and good to read more of.
- Usami was done well as an additional classmate during her time in the series.

Wont spoil the rest of the cast.

The Monogatari series aren't fully translated yet.
(At least from the site I'm browsing on)

I'm starting to read Fate/Zero now.

I've read alot of light novels, about a quarter of the number of my anime list. Most of the anime I like usually comes from light novels. A light novel I've been reading recently is Kokoro Connect which was written by Sadanatsu Anda. The illustrations are done by K-On! and Lucky Stars' character designer, so the art is great.

EDIT: It seems like an anime is going to be released from it. The PV looks so much like K-On! The fact that they've used Canon as the song in the PV automatically makes it something for me to look forward to.

Capricore
I have yet to finish the DRRR!! light novels since it's not completely translated into english just yet.
But I started on it already.

I'm currently reading Toradora. I have to say it's one of the better LN's I read in terms of writing (or it could be the translators).
The last chapter of Volume 7 was really nicely done.

Edit:
Also I seem to be preferring light novels over visual novels now.

Just some news on the Mayo Chiki LN series, it seems that the next volume will be the final volume of Mayo Chiki. For any of you looking for a nice school life/romance/bit of fanservice - anime, then I'd suggest watching the anime of this light novel. If you're the reading-type, then Mayo Chiki is also a nice read.

Here's the news article from ANN regarding the final volume.
