This series holds a special place for me.

After a convention a friend and I were sorting through what we had bought deciding what animes of the random ones we bought we were going to watch. We ended up marathoning both Kimi ga Nozomu Eien and Saikano in one sitting. It was hell. While stuff like Clannad and Angel Beats have action/comedic parts to break up the sections of the story. These shows have essentially nothing and we ended up sitting through this gruelling 9-hour quagmire of misery, angst and guilt. At the end of it while we both disliked Kimi ga Nozomu Eien for its forced plot and unenjoyable characters, neither of us really could say if we enjoyed Saikano or not. Even now I still don't even know what to give it out of 10.

The same way some people find 50 shades of grey appealing. Some people see abusive relationships as somehow healthy and romantic it seems.

Texhnolyze.

Have I posted this yet ? No ? Yes ?

Anyway, Texhnolyze.
I adore this show. Even if it's basically about a crapsack world that had a little bit of hope and then had said hope ground to dust before your eyes.

On a related note, Doc is best Doc.

Plastic Memories .... definitely D:

They are completely different lol.
For similar style to Phantom I'd say Speed Grapher is sadder. It also has the best pedophile and one of my absolute favourite villains. Saiga and Suitengu are fantastic.
Faust
Too bad Speed Grapher had pretty horrendous animation consistency. It's almost endearing.

Art, Animation and Sound don't bother me too much, otherwise I don't think I'd ever be able to enjoy classics like Ashita no Joe.
I prefer to stick purely to characters and story when assessing a series' worth.
Faust
True enough. That was more a passing jab at the production.

Old shows have this quirk I am always comfortable with.
Apple-san
Clannad and Ano Hana

Even my sister just told me the story of Clannad and Ano Hana

I cried from relief when they decided not to go with the botched cop-out ending. If Isla lived due to the power of love that series would have dropped to a 6/10

Wolf Children and Hotarubi no Mori e.

If an anime movie didn't count then definitely Air.

If I had to be honest I would say clannad more specifically clannad after story as the ending was very impactful.

SPOILER
though the saddest anime moment of all time for me is Ace's death in One Piece

You seem like the type to absolutely love Wolf Children.

Air though :/ Eh?

Let's not forget Sola.

One of the guys from Key worked on this manga and anime. The way it ended was too damn much for my innocent days (one of my first few animes)

Also H20: Footprints in the Sand.

plastic memories, air, and guilty crown

I'd take Shiori's arc from Kanon over Air any day of the week. That's how mediocre Air was.

Guilty Crown is a joke too.

Clannad.
Although it's not actually a "sad" anime since they're all happy in the end.
Nice spoiler -_-
But I agree, Clannad (AS)
Green Platinum
That is some terrible logic though.

Sherlock Holmes isn't actually a series of mystery stories because at the end there is no mystery.

Kanon2006, Anohana, i'll post again if others come to mind, i'll definitely check out Magnitude soon.
