Start with a large tablet area first, and decrease it only after you get used to it. I started on tablet with something like a 1cm sized area, and it took a long time of increasing it bit by bit to get used to a decently sized area. Will save you trouble if you just get used to a large area first.
A few things I'd suggest in addition to what Wishes said.
Firstly, don't give up on it if you don't see instant results. Some people take to it pretty quickly, while it takes others a lot more time. Maybe it's not for you at all - Whatever the case, the only way you'll find out for sure is by giving it as much time as you can.
Secondly, drivers. I got my CTL490 (which is pretty notoriously bad for osu!) a few days before finding out about the custom drivers. I was enjoying it, and doing well, but the drivers definitely made a difference to the feel. Experiment, but don't swap too much, else you'll just confuse your pen hand. Well, I was taught not to swap anything too much
So make of that what you will.
