I'm surprised no one has suggested restarting your PC...

I can try that again, however this issue has persisted over 30 hours and I do not keep the computer on overnight.

The logs even show that a restart is needed, but I had assumed that it meant the software due to how the updater works. If that was the case, the problem should have fixed itself when I got on today. Will edit my response once I have restarted the computer to detail what the results are.

Report back, I'm looking for a solution.

I suppose you could delete the osu!.exe and run the mentioned installer as Administrator.

Did anything on your PC change recently i.e. Windows Update or other software?

That has been done before, I forgot to list it on my first post. Also the complete poweroff and start up has not changed the results of the problem. (Restarts do not always clear memory, a full shutdown should)

Additionally, there were no changes in software at all. The only change was the update osu had released. Windows had updated few days before I had received the update on osu. I believe I had one update on osu after that windows update that ran successfully; however, I do not quite remember.

Try to install the game with the installer on another user account.

That might clue in as to why it's occuring. I considered asking you to delete the staging folder but since you already attempted reinstalling the whole game, that most likely won't solve anything.

What you could do however, is install the game in another location and try to update.

Ok then, so we have a solution but now to determine what the cause of the problem is.
I had run the installer and installed it into a folder on the desktop. It doesn't create infinite updates now, but I am still confused why it was doing it with the default install location in the "%LOCALAPPDATA%" folder.

EDIT: I attempted to delete the osu! folder in %LOCALAPPDATA% but it seems we have some lingering file locks from some process. I'm investigating what processes have this file open right now.

EDIT 2: Unfortunately, the tools I have available show no sign of a single process holding a file lock on anything within the folder.
Now this is only a theory from this point on but.
It may seem the operating system believes there is a lock and thus it prevents proper updates from occurring in that folder.

Please try using the old installer from the download page, which you can find here: https://osu.ppy.sh/p/download

Follow the same steps you used previously for the other installer.
Please never recommend this

If you are having issues with this, first delete osu!.cfg (the one *without* your username) before running the web installer. It should resolve the issue.
