So lots of skins that Cookiezi uses (just an example off the top of my head) are centered, meaning it has a 4:3 playing field but he is playing at a 16:9 or 16:10 resolution. Wanted to know how it works, hopefully it's not super obvious.

Do you mean how some skins have the playfield outlined with a box?
If so, that's just a box that's skinned into scorebar-bg.png

1366x768 (SD) are the dimensions for 16:9
