I am currently using Astro A40s without the mix amp plugged into the front port on my PC. The volume gets reasonably load, but some songs I would like to bleed to. Would a sound card make to music sound better or louder? Something decent under 100$. I just would like to have the best experience playing osu/taiko/stepmania. I don't play any games that need footstep precision. Just a bunch of rhythm games.

Worst -> onboard sound
better than nothing -> soundcard
best -> dac/amp setup

Onboard sound nowadays is more isolated and its quality is better. A soundcard isnt much of an improvement.

It's much better to get a DAC/AMP. Like a Bravo Audio V2 for $68 or a Fiio $130 which kinda fits in your budget. I highly suggest you increase your budget though since the improvement in an AMP's quality is very much noticeable as your budget area goes up.

I could go maximum 200$, but I'm making a trip to PA stopping in columbus Ohio to play TAIKO and project diva. If there is a big difference between a 70$ and 200$ DAC on the other hand...

If you got $200 then go for the AudioQuest Dragonfly Red, and yes, there is a big difference between $70 and $200 ones.

The AudioQuest one is tiny and portable and you can basically take it anywhere, it's well worth the $200 if you got the budget for it.
