Why are all the trills on ring fingers man. You shouldn't start out with the hardest diff if you aren't familiar with the game...

But please dude reconsider the way you approach mania, there's no way you'll make a good 7* diff without any experience.

Also feels like you approach mania mapping the same way as std works. You shouldn't leave out notes arbitrarily, like here 00:17:972 - . If there's a logic behind it, then it might be fine, but I don't see many of these sections follow any sensible layering pattern.

y'know he definitely said it's a work in progress. how about instead of being so aggressive toward someone with inexperience, you take the time to explain your thoughts in a neutral way. just because he's a good mapper in standard doesn't mean he has nothing to learn or should immediately be a great mania mapper.

if anything you should be glad that someone like Monstrata is trying to branch out into something new, but instead you want to attack him because he's dipped his toes into something unfamiliar. it's not even remotely closed to being ready for rank yet (the spread, that is) so calm down.

i'd just like to come in here and say that i've been playing VSRGs for a very long time, and i know that my 7K experience is lacking for certain, but i also know that there are a lot of players that can legitimately come in and serve as consultants/mediums of assistance if i were to make a difficult 7k chart. saying that you need to "take two years off" to play the game is absolutely fucking ridiculous. you should be ashamed of making a comment that closed-minded.

with that being said: Monstrata - I do hope that you take the time to consult higher-end 7K players and listen to their opinions (and justifications for why things should be done a certain way). as someone who is drifting into making content in other modes as well, I definitely understand the desire to want to get a feel for something different. We ran into each other when you were piecing this map together, and exchanged a few words/terminologies - i feel like with some guidance, you could legitimately get somewhere with this. I'll also say: don't automatically assume you'll get to rank with the current state of your map as well: "see you in the ranked section" could certainly come across as pompous.

I do hope you have fun in this process of trying to make a mania map, though.

Just want to say that even with help it was a questionable idea to start off at 7-9*. It's really easy to go from challenging to awkward to bullshit in mania.
Think about it this way: you have no experience in mania charting, you create a diff that will most likely have to be recharted. Because you don't have any experience in mania charting how can you judge mods? or guest diffs? Like honestly, if you started at 4* you would have way better chances at understanding what's actually going on.

On top of that you're greatly limiting the amount of good and diverse GDs. Because as it turns out, there aren't that many ranked maps compared to std, mania is still quite new and the ranking criteria are really strict.
Good amount of charters come from different games where stuff like hitsounds or full spread of diffs don't really matter, so they just never bother going for ranked. This doesn't mean that their charts are bad or that they don't have experience.
Like, what you're basically saying is that even people like Blocko or Evening couldn't submit a GD because they only have 1 ranked mapset. That is just ridiculous.

Yea, if you can't play this diff you're just too weak.

No actually though, stop looking at this difficulty like its a final product. I'm not looking for mods. This is a diff to practice and figure out how standard conventions translate to mania.

If you actually want to be helpful, tell me what's good about this diff so I have a better baseline for what concepts to keep.

I may be the worst one here at rhythm games, but I know for a fact that this map ain't ganna fly, and the GD requirements aren't necessary at all. There are 1* and below that are better constructed than this.

Well that should be fairly easy, to construct a 1* map better than a 7* map, if you think about it...

Friendly reminder that being in the ranked section of mania isn't something to be proud of.

Regardless, I do recommend not only taking positive feedback that compliments your map since it's mostly negative things that need attention. While some of the feedback can be seen as negative, it's still useful if you're willing to pay attention to the mentioned points. In other words, get off your throne and admit your mistakes instead of ignoring them. I'll also point out what Chaos said about being constructive applies to both sides. Your attitude doesn't seem to follow that mindset, although it seems as if that was triggered from replies, and right now you're making a very bad first impression for the new people you're reaching out to. I don't know who you are but you appear as feeling prestigious in your replies

Positive feedback is what will improve a mapper the most. It may not improve the map, but that's secondary anyways. I started mapping standard in January 2015, and got my first mapset ranked in March, and that was back when I had no musical theory/knowledge, nor was I a part of the community/able to get advice and help easily. How do you improve as a mapper? Figure out what's good and whats not. Figuring out why your map is bad will do nothing to improve your mapping, it will just improve your map.

Figuring out what's wrong doesn't mean learning what's right. However, learning what's right allows you to figure out what's wrong.

You're puncturing your own argument here by saying "How do you improve as a mapper? Figure out what's good and whats not."

Without a reason why a certain thing is good or bad, it's not much use for future mapping. Figuring out why a map is good or bad is, unlike what you say, a way to improve your mapping as a whole. What matters is how you absorb feedback and remember it. I, too, am experienced with mapping and I can tell you what has helped me the most was people pointing out patterns that were not intentionally harder than others and general inconsistency issues. Not the 'good' things you speak of.

Most of the time, positive feedback is "This is fun" or "This is good". You're more likely to get detailed feedback when it's negative since people are more likely to point out bad patterns than good patterns (Although, depending on the individual, it can end up being insulting to a certain degree. One must learn how to separate personal attacks and constructive feedback - this thread is a testament to that).

I won't post a detailled mod, but I hope you can look at these "suggestions" since they are kinda generale guidelines and they are recurring in your map

Symmetry/triangles
Avoid them, they are played badly and makes dumb anchors.
Anchors during long streams
The blue notes are called anchors and plays really badly during really long section, avoid them, It's more important to have fluid streams than repetitive and "good looking" patterns like zigzags.
Overmapping
You are putting heavy chords for only the kick, It's far too much overmapped compared to the previous section (also look at these anchors on the right holy shit).

Monstrata, people have to actually play your map when you rank it, so you should care.
In mania there aren't a lot of ranked maps, so when you rank a hard map that means that everyone have to play it to stay on the leaderboards. There are no alternatives, you can't just pm tillerino or w/e. You play the hardest ranked maps which there are only handful of and that's it.

Thanks Todestrieb, finally some useful feedback :D. Yea, i'm remapping those end sections and focusing on simpler chords and avoiding anchors for the sake of multiple stairs lol.
