There is a point to be said though about the ranked date. The osu! skill ceiling and playability scale has changed dramatically, making much older maps, such as those old marathons you've shared as your examples, far more difficult to play for newer players.

However, for those of us who've begun playing around that time (Heck, for some, that was before Z/X keyboard keys were a thing, when AR/OD were the same parameter, when there were no decimals, before tablet took the game by storm), that was essentially considered as the norm for Insanes at that time.

It is really a testament to how osu!'s skills among players, and their appetite for their playstyle, has grown so voraciously.

I see, thanks!

Newer marathon maps have higher ARs and moderate circle sizes. For instance Rootus

"low AR" not sure if it's a concern when considering majority of low star rating marathon maps use "low AR", in some cases if the BPM is low enough, lower AR is used in 4* maps. Play more and get good, low AR reading is also a skill though not seen as mandatory in the current rank system

As for circle size, can't really help with that just play more modern maps but you're gonna miss out on training your precision

if you're looking for marathons, don't type "marathon" in beatmap search, it will only give you old maps.. because most new maps dont have "marathons" in the tags. Just look for maps with just one difficulty, they are over 5 minutes long.

except if you like 2009 mapping style then go ahead and play it

filtering for "approved" category would be easier tbh

Ok thank you for all of the helpful advice. :)
How do I get a moderator to "close" this thread or move it to resolved?
