To start off: 11 killed in attacks on police, military in Turkey; 226 hurt

- While I may not be fully informed on what is really happening to Turkey, these past few weeks have not been going so well for the country and its citizens due to incidents such as this. Not only did they have to endure the failed military coup which resulted in the loss of hundreds of lives and the detainment of thousands, but also have to deal with the threats of the PKK. I wish every Turkish people to be safe and to be able to fight off every thing that is keeping them from being a peaceful country.

Feel free to post any news of your liking, but no hard feelings when I deem your news to be largely unimportant or come off to me as sort of a troll.

there is a Wikipedia page concerning about the Turkish coup d'état attempt btw. the incidents surely brings out a lot of further consequences, and sadly the current condition might actually continue for a really long period of time considering the worst case scenario, since the causes have not been solved for decades and the current politics seem problematic. and the voices of anger from the community is not something that could be stopped in a day or two unless an effective resolution is suggested and carried out.

threats and tragedies are unpredictable and unpreventable, and anything might be happening in any global corner in any second. so may everyone all around the world to be safe and to be able to fight off every thing that is keeping them from safety and peace anyway.

okay im bad in discussions especially about global events so im gonna share some instead although being a chainbreaker is really bad in some kind of sense. so NASA just made all the scientific research it funds available for free http://bit.ly/2blDYCs and it's actual good news. even though the fact that "everyone should have access to knowledge regardless of their income or affiliation" is undeniable, most scientific content and researches are still locked without a pay due to reasons including copyright infringements. this action by NASA is definitely beneficial as it is a great step in order to encourage, promote and achieve open science.

edit: and EDEN's new album i think you think too much of me is out! http://ftrbnd.co/ityttmom the atmosphere is excellent and his voice is really amazing so it's really worth it a go.

edit2: Malaysia's Lee Chong Wei won over China's Lin Dan in the semifinals with 15-21, 21-11 and 22-20 for 2016 Rio Olympics! http://bit.ly/2biBVSz + http://bit.ly/2bsxqVZ both of them have shown amazing performance in the breathtaking match, but people might not understand how fantastic it is for all the Malaysians when Lee won the game. the legend has brought pride to the whole nation throughout his badminton career and this time the achievement is extraordinary too. congrats Lee, and all the best for the finals! #AnakAnakMalaysia

btw nice thread and good luck in maintaining it. contributing my #333 post here is quite a good choice lolz

What NASA did is cool and I'm sure a lot of people are interested in getting access to the scientific research, albeit not all being available, which is perfectly understandable. Students and citizens alike will benefit from this greatly and will perhaps induce others to develop an interest for this field of Science.

Tragedies sure are happening all around the world, but nowhere as severe as Syria, especially in Aleppo. There's this particular picture of a boy which sparked worldwide outrage because it "sums up the horror of Aleppo" which I certainly agree with. Aleppo has been targeted by multiple airstrikes by the Russian government, Syrian government, and other allies of Bashar al-Assad due to the various anti-Assad rebel groups roaming in and around the city. While the reason for this may be a bit justified due to the ISIS' controlled part of the city also being targeted by airstrikes, it is baffling and unjustifiable for the civilians and the hospitals to be targeted. This isn't the only problem as the city has been deprived of humanitarian aid for at least a month, it would be beneficial for the civilians at least if the Russians and the other ones who are calling the airstrikes to call for a ceasefire of at least 3 days to give way for the United Nations to help the citizens of Aleppo, which have no access to running water and other basic needs.

Good news-- Serbian women's volleyball team knock out U.S. favorites

While this may not be good news to some, I am a big fan of the Serbia women's volleyball national team and I called for them to win against the USA because of their sheer firepower. They have been a treat to watch and I bid them good luck against China which was a pretty surprising win considering that they were up against the Netherlands, and beat them with the score of 27-25 23-25 29-27 25-23. I'm really stoked for the final, go Serbia! :)

Thanks HOS! I hope I can maintain it.. At least, I'll need some help though for sure, if people would actually contribute to the thread. About time there's an actual "General Discussion" thread, right?
HootOwlStar
the puns of general discussion pfft. anyway maintaining the thread surely will consume lots of time and effort so err be determined I guess. and play more undertale jk

I don't focus on sports other than the ones played by Malaysians currently anyway, but no matter how, undeniably the best will win. new bad news for me btw - Malaysia's men doubles pair lost to China really merely, with scores 21-16, 11-21 and 22-24. https://www.rio2016.com/en/badminton-standings-bd-mens-doubles the last round was such a pity that two fouls in two gold medal points ruin the whole winning chance by the pairing W.K. Tan and V. S. Goh. it might be due to stress and the lack of experience though, like the whole country's hope is set on them in changing the country's history by gaining the first ever gold medal. but they had already performed really extraordinarily in the last two matches by defeating the world's top pairs. + the whole badminton team had rewrite the history since every involved Malaysian badminton teams (mixed doubles, men doubles and men single) have made themselves to the finals. still, congrats to Malaysia athlete team for excellent performance, and all hopes are put on Lee now since he has a really high chance in getting a gold medal.

and I did notice about the picture in yesterday's newspaper since it is quite a headline topic in the international column, but didn't know the whole story. might be war and politics and similar issues again huh jk

edit: god another bad news - Malaysia national anthem was not played in the prize giving ceremony for badminton men's single. https://www.rio2016.com/en/badminton-standings-bd-mens-singles Lee didn't manage to get the gold medal with the results 18-21, 18-21 against China's Chen L. Lee still performed really well in the match though and the pride of all Malaysians for his achievements will not be shattered no matter how. he is definitely and undeniably a legendary player, and thanks for the huge contribution to sports, lifting the whole nation to the top of the world.

the thread is so unsupported btw smh

I know this happened like 2 days ago but I wasn't really active so I'd still want to post it here, China wins gold in women's volleyball

Tbh, I'm really disappointed with the result because I was so sure Serbia would win but nevertheless they did their nation proud and I hope for them to bounce back this 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Yeah, I agree. I hope someone else would actually post and contribute something but I guess not a lot of people is interested in that.

EDIT: Turkey vows to cleanse Islamic State from its border after wedding attack kills 54

I don't know if there are other people like me (surely there are) but I'm so sick of seeing news about things like this. Members of Daesh are pure scum and I can't help but think that they use Islam as a facade to justify their wrongdoings. I once visited a seminar with my dad explaining how their propaganda is actually against the Sharia law as a whole, even if what they're doing seems to be a primitive, and hardcore version of the Sharia law. I give my faith in their words though, seeing that most Muslims decry their barbaric acts and that I have plenty of friends back in Finland who are Muslims as well.
