Second attempt at a beatmap, will hopefully finish this one this time lol

7/12/16: Uploaded map
7/13/16: Timing fixes and some edits to the map's difficulty by increasing jump sizes in the beginning sequence.

  1. First of all, your samples are too loud. It's really rare you have to put them at 100% and let's say it would never happen for a pretty calm song like this. Try to put them at 70-75% or so~
  2. Audio preview time conflicts with Shira's Hard diff.
  3. Uninherited timing points conflict with Shira's Hard diff.
  4. 00:03:675 (1) - The strong note in the music is just at the end of this slider hence it would be cool if we could actually hit the note, like a single circle, or the beginning of a slider. It feels a bit odd you have to stop hitting when it's the strongest note of the stenza right. You should be really careful with it. Simply avoid sliders on red ticks unless the music really calls for it. It usually plays weird. This way your combo colors will be more structure and would make more sense than the way it is now.
  5. The combo colors. 00:08:675 (1) - You put one on the new stenza, which is the right thing, but right after that, on the same note here 00:10:275 (4) - you don't put any. Why do you prefer put one on a way lower tone here 00:10:875 (1) - ? I'll give a few examples:
    1. 00:10:275 (4) - Add NC then remove here 00:10:875 (1) -
    2. 00:11:875 (4) - Add NC then remove here 00:12:275 (1) -
    3. 00:13:075 (1) - NC doesn't make that much sense here neither, I'd remove and put it there 00:13:475 (3) - When the music actually changes.
  6. The flow is usually good, it always creates a sort of circle which is a good thing. But, I feel that sometimes, your patterns are really overdone.
    1. 00:11:675 (3,4,5,1,2,3,4,1,2,3,4,5,6,7) - Feels a bit odd to move crusor at pretty high speed in all those directions whenether the music isn't that intense here.
    2. 00:18:475 (1,2,3) - ^ What in the music makes you feel you should put a jump just there? Sounds a bit random to me ._.
    3. 00:30:475 (4,5,6) - ^
  7. Some other things I could point out:
    1. 00:14:375 (9) - Overmapped
    2. 00:15:075 (1) - Wrong spacing with the rest of the stream
    3. 00:39:075 (1) - It's 1/3
    4. 00:47:875 (4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12) - Sounds really overmapped eh ^^
    5. 00:58:275 (3) - should finish on the previous white tick (same as the previous slider), this aside, I really like the idea you had to put a 1/1 to slow down here, it emphasizes the vocal so greatly.
    6. 01:34:075 (7) - Try to stick on standard curve sliders at the beginning, it's hard enough to make a map look neat :p
    7. 01:15:875 (1) - Make it more curved :c
Alright, that's it, just some ideas of how to fix some stuff x)
Flow was okay, but please, be careful of those really overdone jumps, the song is pretty peaceful, you could go with 0 jump just as well it would fit and might be great too (I'm not kidding). And sometimes you tend to overmap (from triples to whole streams) so be careful with that as well.

I am an aesthetics mapper. I'll check out the major rhythm stuff, but it looks like you got a lot of support on that already. I'm just gonna throw this out there, I'm not a pro at osu!, or at mapping. Feel free to ignore anything that you want, they're all suggestions. :D

General
[*]As was mentioned already, you don't need your name in your own difficulty
[*]offset is 2,275 but might sound slightly better at 2,290 offset


A Note about Spacing
I got out a piece of paper to mark the distance between notes, and took the distance from the space between 00:05:675 (3,4) - this is what I would call a "jump" and I took the "normal" space from 00:02:475(1,2) - end of slider 1 to circle 2
Here's a list of the spacing stuff. Normal, and jump. I will specify short or long mostly, but you should be able to tell. I'm also no expert, and honestly the inconsistencies in the jumps weren't that hard to deal with, but fixing them might make your map look a little tiny bit prettier. :)

[*]GIANT NOTE - your spacing seems to be a little inconsistent. I'd highly recommend going into the timing setup panel and using the "slider velocity multiplier" to standardize your jumps and streams. This would mean that you'd have to add boatloads of timing points, but a lot of mapper seem to use this method to ensure their spacing is always correct.
[*]00:05:675 (4,5) - is a hair too far.
[*]00:06:475 (2,3) - far
[*] 00:07:275 (2,3) - end of slider 2 to the beginning of slider 3 - far
[*]00:07:675 (3,4) - end of slider 3 to beginning of slider 4 - far

[*]00:16:275 - add a bit of curve to the notes or move 5 to the right a little for smooth curves
[*]00:19:075 - these four notes are closer together than the other 1/4th streams
[*]00:20:675 - fix curves
[*]00:20:675 (3) - nudge to the right?
[*]00:24:475 - this notes are not aligned on top of each other
[*]00:25:875 (3,4) - nudge up (fix the curves)
[*]00:47:875 - fix curves, consider changing sound of note 8 to let the player hear the emphasis on the down beat
[*]00:55:675 - stack is messed up a little
[*]00:56:275 - define the path of this stream, it's a little vauge
[*]01:02:275 - fix curves, also if this isn't an accelerated stream, then the notes are too far apart for you previous 1/4th note streams
[*]01:09:175 - keep it if you want, but the little jump created here is unexpected because the last stream that was like this was continuous
[*]01:10:075 - stack is not stacked (this was a previous note on two different occasions, and you can keep it, but it might look a little sloppy)
[*]01:26:075 - stacking, also looking at the previous groups of 3 circles that are timed like this you tend to stack these...you can keep it, but it's a bit inconsistent
[*]01:23:675 (2,3) - move these so they make a straight line with 4
[*]01:26:075 - stacking
[*]01:29:875 - notes are spaced further away from each other than the stream directly before it, really consider standardizing the accelerated stream distance and the normal stream distance
[*]01:31:475 - same deal here as with the comment directly above
[*]01:33:475 - if you're trying to mirror note 7, then condense the stream and make sure note 1 is horizontally aligned with the end of slider 7, if that's not what you were going for, then consider changing the curve of the stream to something that makes it flow into slider 7 a bit nicer
[*]01:40:875 - this stream is pretty far apart as far as your previous streams go, maybe place the notes slightly closer together
[*]01:42:675 - same deal with this stream. It's really far apart, but if this is your accelerated stream, then change all your other non-accelerated streams to be noticeably closer together
[*]01:43:875 - same as above. only use accelerated streams when really emphasizing something
[*]01:44:875 - this one's a bit closer, but still further apart than what seems to be the average range of your normal streams
[*]02:03:875 - has a little dip in it from 4-6, so maybe try and smooth out the path
[*]02:58:275 - fix the curves? the spacing on this stream is also a tiny bit irregular
[*]02:59:275 - this stream seems to go from regular to accelerated... not typically advisable, but you can keep it if you're attached to it
[*]03:03:675 - stream spacing is irregular
[*]03:05:875 - same as above

Shapes
[*]01:15:875 - make this curve look more uniform, it's sorta sloppy, and seems a little out of place
[*]01:29:275 - this shape is also irregular, maybe try and make it more symmetrical
[*]01:34:075 - slider 7 ends really strangely, in an almost hook. consider making this more of a normal curve
[*]01:41:475 - make this slider smoother
[*]01:45:275 - smooth the slider, try to get the slider tick in the corner of the turn. that gives the slider extra rhythm!
[*]02:21:475 - turn it into another shape, or make it more circular, just make it less off balance
[*]02:28:675 - make this slider more symmetrical. it's almost there, but the bottom half has a tighter bend than the upper half
[*]02:33:475 - this slider is less close. make the wiggles symmetrical
[*]02:34:275 - this one too
[*]03:09:075 - ok, the heart. it's nice, but you may want to add a corner point at the place where it dips in, somewhere around 03:10:975 - and try to get the end point and beginning points at the tip, at the bottom of the heart.
Kinda like this maybe? See the red dot at the apex of the heart? that'll make your life a lot easier.

I also recommend making the heart vertically first and then just rotate it however you want after you're certain that it's symmetrical.
Anyhow, I'm sorry that I couldn't be more helpful, but I tried. :oops: I hope you get this map ranked!

General:
- You should pay attention to the pace of the music and try to match that with your spacing. When the music is soft/relaxed, it becomes uncomfortable to play large jumps which would be ok in say, the choruses. For this map, this applies most in the beginning and the bridge. Instead of having the jumps in these sections more or less the same as in the choruses, have the distances slowly build up to match the intensity in the music. If this is confusing, intensity generally just means volume (I see you adjust your hitsound volume already).
- Your new combo placement seems a bit arbitrary some of the time, I would simply avoid placing them on upbeats, even when a pattern may start there.
- I'm guessing you changed a slider velocity or something and didn't resnap your stuff. Check AiMod (Ctrl+Shift+A) to fix the unsnapped stuff.

Specifics:
00:03:889 (2) - New combo here and not at 1
00:04:489 (4) - This slider just looks bad when all the other sliders around are just plain passthroughs, and there's nothing here particularly worth emphasizing.
00:10:089 (2,3) - These aren't properly stacked
00:40:689 (1) - Too close to the previous object
00:55:689 (3,4,5) - Just make it a normal stack
01:33:489 (1,2,3,4) - Overmapped, there are probably more of these that I missed, no drums or anything to back this one
01:36:089 (1) - A new combo here doesn't make sense, also the stack is messed up and I can't tell if it's intentional

Hi, it's me again.
Of course, I'd be happy to explain more about standardizing distances. Thanks for telling me that I wasn't being clear. It's not a major problem for you most of the time, but here's the basic premise. I wrote a lot, so i collapsed it... I'm kinda needlessly long-winded.

the stuff
There's usually three distinct speeds a map has. You should always know when you've entered into a different zone. With your map it's a little nebulous. Really, not a huge deal, because you seem to be placing things fairly well without distance snap.

The normal velocity is set in the timing menu where you see the bpm, offset, and slider tick rate.
  1. simply the rate at which most of your map goes
  2. you shouldn't have to mess with the slider velocity for this
The fast/slow velocity is set in the timing setup panel.
  1. After you've selected the point in time where you want to speed up or slow down the map, you can look over at the portion of the window that says "slider velocity multiplier" .75 will slow the map down, 1 will keep it at the velocity you set when you originally timed the map. 1.5 will speed the map up, and then there's custom... you can set it to whatever you want. When I say speed up, (any value multiplier over 1) I mean it makes the notes snap further away, making the player move faster. On the other side,(any value multiplier under 1) slowing the map down means that the the distance snap is closer, making the player move their cursor slower. This is useful if you want to emphasize the movement of a song. If there's a part in the middle where the song feels like it's taking a breather, before getting back to tempo, you can slow the map down to mirror that. You don't have this particular problem, because the song is pretty consistent.
You know this already because you've used it already.

When you have jumps in your map, this is where the fast velocity should be used. If you use it every time you want the player to "jump" then players can begin to get a feel for how far your jumps are, making the process more intuitive. There are lots of instances in which you want to make irregular jumps however, but are almost always timed with special cues in the music, so they don't come out of nowhere.

Example:
01:47:875 - you have a series of 4 jumps. 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, & 4-5.
If you added a timing point at 01:47:875 then you could use the velocity multiplier to make sure these notes snapped the same distance away from each other.

In the case of your map the streams you have sometimes have slightly varying distances between notes. It shouldn't actually screw players up too bad, but sometimes it looks less clean than it could be. The way to fix this is to set timing points around the stream and setting the slider velocity to a value you deem appropriate. If you do this for all your streams and keep distance snap on, then all your streams will be evenly spaced no matter what.

Accelerated Stream
  1. spaced these notes farther apart than normal
  2. it creates a rushed effect that is best used when the music gets quick, or frenzied
Regular Stream
  1. usually keep the cursor at about the same velocity as sliders
  2. it is also normal for regular streams to be slightly slower than the velocity of a slider
My last bit is that your distance snap seems to be snapping your notes really far away. I'd look into that some more because your sliders aren't that fast. I personally keep distance snap on all the time, and just change velocity, but you probably have a different mapping style, so don't think too hard about this stuff. :lol:

00:13:897 (10,1) - if you want to add flair like the stream above ^, this would be the place to do it instead of overmapping

-sliders are boring, make them prettier <3

00:08:698 (1) - since the drums come in here, maybe switch it up a bit to further spaced singles?
00:27:898 (1,2,3) - switch directions somewhere
00:51:498 (3,4,5) - change some of the earlier sliders to these short sliders + 1 note, makes it more interesting
01:04:698 (3) - this felt like one too many back and forths
01:14:298 (5) - this section needs a change, consider single notes between with shorter sliders, or changing from straight to different shaped sliders
01:19:098 (1,2,3) - dont get in the habit of making everything always circle shaped, switching direction makes for a more immersive map
