Oh I dropped that, but don't remember why. It's been years
Most people enter that series expecting an action packed one rather than a series about sheltered girls facing puberty.
I've been watching
DororoIt has really been eye opening for me about it's era. I've always assumed that the 1960's TV anime was entirely aimed at a younger/general audiences and more adult content arrived once anime had built a dedicated fanbase. As well as reading the fact Osamu Tezuka wished to create anime aimed at adults I always assumed this was reserved for his films and short films since the stuff of his I've seen; Astroboy, Princess Knight and Kimba the white Lion were rather child friendly.
I know Japan has different standards of content suitable for children but this series with it's copious amounts of blood and decapitation is different from what I expected from a B&W anime. My Japan folklore 'expert' friend has said it's likely based on a folktale (I forget the name) so maybe that is why it gets a free pass for what it is.
