- This is the story of what happened today and why my butt hurts.
- Be me, walking to the library for internet and have to walk through the park.
- There's a small short cut I take to save time that's heavily wooded and has pretty flowers.
- peaceful.jpg
- I see birds and expect them to fly awake as I get closer.
- Two of them do but one just stays there and stares at me.
- It's smaller than the first two and looks different.
- As I get closer, I realize it's a young American Robin and the parents don't know how to get it back into the nest.
- I can't help myself.
- I feel obligated to help the poor thing.
- Spends 10 minutes trying to catch it.
- Once I do catch it, the parents lose their shit, squawking at me and the baby does too.
- feelsbadman.gif
- I put baby in my hoodie because the darkness inside calms it down.
- Looks up in the trees to spot the nest.
- It's 10-15 feckin' feet above me in an oak tree.
- FML
- I try to remember how to climb trees.
- I apparently roll well on my Climbing check, if life were DnD and end up getting up the tree.
- Damn birds start swooping at me and I can't do anything but climb.
- I finally get to nest, muscles and birds screaming at me.
- I gently put baby bird back into nest and try to make no sudden movements so it doesn't jump out of the nest again.
- slowly make my descent.
- I slip.
- ohshit.gif
- fall 10 feet to my ass with a thud.
- lie on the ground, groaning in pain and re-evaluating my life choices.
- Finally get strength to stand and continue my way limping the library.
- If my pain gets worse, I'll just walk to the hospital a few blocks away.
- Is at library now, in pain and telling my story to OT to vent my irritation.
TLDR - trying to help a baby bird back into it's nest leads to falling on your ass and re-evaluating your life decisions.
Pic related, it's what the bird I helped looks like.
