Ranking Criteria wrote:

Slider tick rate should not be modified through the .osu file. Most custom values result in unsnapped slider ticks, however tick rates 0.5, 1.333, and 1.5 have practical use and can be applied only when they fit a song more appropriately than standard tick rates.

https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/749998/discussion/1697811/general/pending very very questionably complex rhythms on lower diffs, especially normal (paired with lack of modders on that diff)

Excuse me, but the map was modded by a total of two people (questionably one, depending on if there was even any effort in modding by one of the nominators involved Sorry I'm blind and didn't see the post in general about hitsounds and spinners and whatever), and the expert looks like 75% of graveyarded maps by various new mappers. It doesn't matter that the difficulty cares slightly more about "flow" or "movement" than your average new mapper map; a map like this by any mapper that isn't known, would have exactly 0% chance of getting ranked in their current state. Even if we don't call this "power abuse", it's pretty damn close to being so.

Aesthetics is subjective, can probably be learned and also molded by different aspects of life, but let's not forget that the brain is extremely good at seeing and appreciating patterns, regularities and symmetry due to biological reasons. That means the vast majority of people can and will appreciate such aesthetic values, meanwhile breaking them can in some cases be effective, while in others fall flat. If anyone is to attempt to do so, at the very least there needs to be more discussion and perspective outside of the very few people who modded the map. In this case I don't see the benefits of the maps aesthetics to make for a more enjoyable experience. Songs are structured, there are repeating patterns, they're not random; an inherently random looking aesthetic does not represent this song in any meaningful way.

Also, let's not forget that osu! is a game; not merely the canvas for people to do artsy things for the sake of it. The ranked section is seen as official content for the game, and there should be some form of expectation to that. one of which should be a base level of consideration to actual gameplay. 01:02:366 (6,7) - and 00:58:554 (1,2) - to name one. Both are a long slider followed by a shorter 1/4, yet they are timed differently. Furthermore, one can ask what difference in the song warrants for a difference in the map between 00:51:758 (6,7) - and 00:57:062 (5,6) - , and 01:02:366 (6,7) -. A game level, which maps essentially are, are free to be challenging, but they should not be unfair to a player. That is, they should not trick a player into thinking something is one thing, while it's something else. Thus if any established gameplay mechanics are subverted, they need to be subverted in such a way that is fair to a player playing the map. While these gameplay mechanics have both changed and evolved over time, it does not mean that a map should disregard them in such a way that there is no way for a player to know what they are expected to do.

So what happened to the saying "getting a map ranked is a priviledge"? This isn't just about this one particular map necessarily, but at the ranking process as a whole. At the rate this is going, outside of just the consideration of "is the map timed correctly?" which we can objectively say yes or no to, anything else is technically "subjective". Every graveyarded new mapper map is appreciated by the mapper and some of his friends. Should this really be enough reason to allow pretty much anything into the ranked section, because "more content for a niche audience" is always better than not? I urge people to do something before essentially every map in the graveyard is rankable.

Being different because it creates interesting gameplay elements or to fit a non-conventional song is fine, but I take issue in being different for the sole sake of being different. This map, as far as I'm concerned, does not contribute to "more creativity" in mapping; it's a regular mediocre map with lacking gameplay considerations, and is mapped the way it is for the sole reason of subverting what is conventionally seen as aesthetically pleasing.
