I can't get osume.exe to run. Everytime I click it, I get a "failed to initialize" error. I've got Vista Home Premium 64-bit, Service pack 2, so .NET 2.0 is part of the system. (I've got 3.5 installed just to be safe though)

This worked fine back in May. My graphics card was starting to bite the dust then. I did a system restore back then to see if it would fix the graphics card driver crashes I was getting (of course my problem was a bad card). I haven't played osu! since before then.

I checked Event Viewer and noticed a problem with ntdll.dll. Anything about that mean anything?

Try re-downloading osume, and if that fails, providing more details on the error(s) you are getting.

Redownloading it doesn't work.

"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000007b). Click OK to terminate the application."

Then Windows Problem Reports and Solutions does its little deal. I also tried running it as an administrator (my user account is an administrator's to begin with) and got the same error.

This is what shows up in Event Viewer:

Faulting application osume.exe, version 1.0.0.0, time stamp 0x4cb20246, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 6.0.6002.18005, time stamp 0x49e0421d, exception code 0xc000007b, fault offset 0x00000000000b8fb8, process id 0x178c, application start time 0x01cbb6024fae6490.

I have absolutely no problems playing/running osu!, just issues with getting the updater to run.

I finally got it to run. For some strange reason, I had to manually start the .NET 2.0 service. Plus, it only stays active for a few seconds...

Anyways, issue resolved! 8-)

I also can't get osume to update. I can't install .Net Framework because I'm on a Windows 64-Bit. Running osume.exe (that peppy linked) doesn't work either. Can anybody give me help or ideas?

The error is:

"osume.exe - Application (window title)
The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application"

Bah, the new cursor and UI look so good... I can hardly wait to play!!! D:

Edit: Actually I feel a bit nooby. OFC I have .net framework installed. The x64 comes with the OS. Anyway, still I have no idea how to correct this ^^. I found a neat little workaround though. I opened up a replay and it took me inside the game. This lets me play songs. I'm also using the NEW version I downloaded from the website so I'm able to use the new cursor. :D

If you have a bit of technical knowledge, you could help me find the cause for this by following this guide:
http://msoos.wordpress.com/2010/09/11/0 ... -solution/

(this is specific to the 0xc000007b error)

Also, could you try running this version of osume and see if it works any better? It might try to update itself instantly, but please check if it gets further than previously.

Thank you so much, Peppy. This worked like a charm~

The new updater version, you mean?

The osume_test.exe file, yes. Didn't have an 0xc000007b error with it at all.

I tried to run the osume-test.exe however it crashes in the middle of updating with the error. (Right after it finishes download of the update in fact).

Anyway, I ran Dependency Walker. Here is the log: http://pastebin.com/uFqpreDg

TBH, I have no technical experience in the dll department. The following are the only things I was able to conclude from the GUI after running osume-test:

1.) IESHIMS.DLL --> Appears with a yellow question mark. Says the system cannot find the file specified.
2.) All of my .dll calls are x64. I manually checked each file one by one to see if any said 32. They all say x64 from the scan through I performed.

If there is anything else I can do to help I would be more than happy to help!

I have since put up a new version of the actual updater. http://osu.ppy.sh/release/osume.exe
Copy to osu! folder and run.

Still no luck. Same error.

Hey if this is taking up your time because I'm the only person with this error then don't worry about correcting this; because it's probably just something on my end. I can still play osu! which is really all that matters! ;D
peppy
You said it crashes in the middle of updating; do you have an error code from that?

It is the 0xc000007b error. I would like to note that the osume_test is the one that crashes in the middle. It downloads _osume.exe and then crashes with the error message

"_osume.exe - Application Error

The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application."

The version from

crashes instantly.

Hmm... that's a bit strange then. The new updater is basically the same program as the test one I linked. Are you sure your download isn't being cached, and you replaced it correctly?
Nobody
Well, osume_test actually finished downloading on the probably 30th try today. ^^

I don't know what changed but the download was completed. (I was actually about to start a video so you could see my problems first hand.)

So osu finished updating!

Thanks for the help peppy!

I'm actually having this exact same problem myself. I get the same error as it tries to update, I can only play osu! if I remain offline. If It tries to connect It immediately does what the Thread Starter has been having issues with. I've tried replacing the updater, but nothing new comes out of it.
