While the main draw of osu! as a rhythm game is the allure of slamming your cursor into circles at supersonic speeds, some of us are here to let loose our inner triangles artists through beatmapping. We want to know if you are one of the people who take part in our wonderful mapping community! If not, have you mapped before? Do you plan on doing so? Either way, be sure to let us know why you are going to map, you are, or are no longer mapping in the thread.

The results of the poll will be featured in the last weekly of the month! I'll look to also take some interesting cases and possibly feature them either in the weekly or through some other medium.

Just wanted to let you know that I do, in fact, love memes mapping

but I will be retiring soon since it's getting boring and definitely not because I'm going to draw shitty doujins full-time

i would map more std if it would be easier as stepmania used to be for me in a past.

The only thing that keeps me from really starting is that i can't give my imagination "form"
Since I'm someone who mainly wants to get into CTB mapping the main problem
i have is to grasp the conversion of Hitobjects from STD to CTB.. i mean, i know their positioning
but i can't for the love of god get it in my brain how long the slider has to last to give me the curvature and length i want..
plus if i have to tidbit every object in Test-mode to see their positioning&Shape then it just fells like a waste of time for me..

If there'll be a CTB Editor in the future then i'll probably really start to invest time in learning how to map propperly

So true, we really need a proper editor!

The main reason why I am mapping is simply because I love music and also because mapping CtB is a lot of fun for me.
Tho yeah, the current editor is probably "meh" for people who are thinking about mapping CtB. The best thing is when people tell you that they enjoyed your map xd

I've always wanted to map songs that I love or find myself fond of after some time listening to them.

I've actually tried to map a few times, but it has always ended with me giving up... That's because, once the notes are on the timeline, I'm not imaginative enough to create patterns, or I'm never satisfied with what I do.

I wish I'd be able to.

Still actively mapping to this day.

For those planning to one day, make sure you choose something you personally like! Start out with the basics and work your way up.

I currently map actively~ still is fun for me after several mapsets~

I will be back on vacation, busy with school things for now:(

I am mapping currently. But sometimes I get bored of mapping.

I am currently training my mapping skills.

I balance my mapping skills with my playing skills so I can also improve at testplaying.
BeatofIke
I still make maps today, but I don't really play osu! anymore (unless I'm bored or test-playing)
AncuL
i usually map maps that is on my level (5.5-6.5* mania maps) so i can rate it personally. but sometimes i can go crazy :^)
Okoratu
Currently I'm trying to take the stuff i like playing and stuff them into different styles to make my solo sets more interesting

I guess that counts as actively messing around with the editor
Duskyui
I'm a fairly active mapper, still learning but I'm getting there. Right now I mostly map to improve on my mapping style, also trying to map cs6 every now and then.

Mapping is a really great way to express how you portray what a song would feel like, let it be overmapped 1/2 spam triangles or intricated rhythmic patterns, its a blank canvas with the only brush being your mouse and keyboard.

but i suck xdxxd
xxdeathx
How else can you better express your passion for a song
Sieg
no longer, that was pretty fun experience tho
Ovoui
it's fun to map because you can play on every music you want imo
Seijiro
No mapping no (osu!)life :P
J1NX1337
What I like about mapping is to produce playable charts of my favorite songs for one of my favorite games, and then hear what other people think about them. Feedback keeps me motivated to keep doing it, and it's a really great feeling to improve at something that you like doing. :)
Arcubin
no longer mapping,

don't ask me why.

my map is tu gud `^`)=3
Haruto
Currently still mapping~
It become one of my hobby these days, as i can improve and learn cool things about mapping. And i can make my own ppmap :> /jk
PyaKura
Playing and mapping o!m on and off, but I can say I tend to spend an equal time doing both nowadays.
xLolicore-
Mapping is a happy meme thing imo although I can't rank shit xd
Christopaz
I oh so want to map! but I don't have the time to learn mapping techniques.
I wanna map to rank (It's like "Death is the best form of cc" kind of philosophy)
When I love a song so much, I wanna map it then get sad because I suck at mapping and probably never rank anything
XiMerx
I love to map, but I can't find nice songs and have time constraints so I don't really map actively
792161
i want to map some songs in future, and i hope i can rank it. but i don't know how to map and rank a map
Nozhomi
Want to map more than I map right now :c
But still I map :3

While I have seen quite some maps that ARE oriented towards triangles and super easy high star rating maps, I still think that mapping can be an expression of the song. Of course there's only so much you can do with circles and sliders, but that's where creativity comes in.

By all means i do not see myself as a good mapper, But some mappers out there are really good at showing what a song can mean with just circles and sliders and the additional spinner.

I myself want to map, Not because to get anything ranked really (not that i think ranked isn't good, because that'd be great, Ranked AND being a really good map) But so that I can make a beatmap that other players may enjoy.

I was mapping a bit actively until this General Secondary Certificate came.
Just as plenty of users said: Need to improve my mapping style. I can map and hitsound, but if I want to get it truly done right, I need to improve my mapping style. So far I've got one song done well, but it was the Expert that was done well, and I need to get the other difficulties done as well as the Expert.

I was trying to map a Love Live song by the way, but I decided to scrap that since I quit Love Live. Now I don't know what to map to continue improving my mapping style... (that is not Fuzzy Future, since I'm already working on it as a means of improving my style)

tl;dr:
  1. Mapping style to be improved
  2. Need to learn to map other difficulties below Insane and Expert
  3. Relieve me of this General Secondary Certificate and I will continue improving
