Did an analysis for how the song really relates to the anime
Major spoilers alert, like seriously don't click the box unless you've watched the animeSPOILERLyrics
Be it our uniforms, or our textbooks
They won’t be changed on a whim
These times are fun, if a bit hollow
We’ll keep swimming through them
But to preserve this sense of calm
We keep trying to solve the equation
Of the perfect act
Solitude used to be our pillar of strength
But it started crumbling down once we found love
Our everyday life could fall apart in a flash

Analysis
Be it our uniforms, or our textbooks
They won’t be changed on a whim
The entire anime starts on the general idea when sensei came up with an idea to try to change 8man and yukinon, these lyrics refers to the fact that it is very hard for them to change anything about themselves.
These times are fun, if a bit hollow
We’ll keep swimming through them
To explain this, I will have to explain the situation a bit. In the start, when 8man and yukinon first met, they believed that they really understood each other fully, since they were both loners. However, as they get to know each other, especially after 8man does his self-sacraficing method of solving other peoples' problems, they realize that they really don't understand each other, and each of them have created an 'ideal image of the other'. Being hollow refers to the fact that they really don't understand each other at all, and therefore the times they spend each other feels hallow. Swimming through them refers to the fact that the times are hard to go through (as there is alot of friction when you are in the water compared to on land).
But to preserve this sense of calm
We keep trying to solve the equation
Of the perfect act
After episode 3 of season 2 is where yukinon and 8man starts to realize that their relationship is not 'genuine' (as in they don't really know each other, but rather a fake ideal version that they've created for each other). However, to stop their relationship from completely breaking apart, they try very hard to put on a fake smile and pretend that everything is fine. That is what it means to put on a perfect act.
Solitude used to be our pillar of strength
But it started crumbling down once we found love
Basically, before 8man and yukinon met, they found their strength in being alone. For 8man, he was at the very bottom, and he created an ideal, loner, image that he needs to follow, and because of this, he is able to do things the way he does. On the contrary, yukinon was alone because she was at the very top, where nobody can approach, and she has a self image of superiority over others. However, once they met each other, they lost that 'loneliness' because of the friendship (love) they found for each other.
Our everyday life could fall apart in a flash
So we remain cowards
So by now it is clear that there is a love triangle between the three of them, however, nobody dares to admit their true feelings as it would ruin the relationship that they have now. They are scared of what kind of future holds for them, so they would rather be cowards and hold their current status of friendship. (If either yukinon or yui confesses to 8man or maybe they confess to each other O_O, then that would create an awkward relationship with the one who is left out)
As our overflowing emotions
Continue to hurt us forever
And so they decide to keep their feeling of love locked tight in their hearts as they are hurt for their inability to let it out.
. yay
