Hello, from #modreqs
Marathon- Quite a few of your New Combos seem fairly inconsistent and don't make much sense to me. Th general rule of thumb is to have NCs on downbeats, or the nearest significant beat if that isn't possible. For example I would make 00:05:852 (6) and 00:07:352 (4) NCs, whilst removing the ones from 00:06:415 (1) and 00:08:102 (1). I don't think it's worth me going through the entire map the point out which NCs I would change, but if you'd like me to do that then I can follow up a post to do that. I'll pont out a few which I think are important though.
- 00:17:852 (6) - I'd recommend trying to use as little slider points as possible to make your sliders look as smooth as possible. You could also use some red points to make the slider look better.
- 00:21:602 (1,2) - Kind of a minor thing but it would look better if these two sliders were the exact same shape. Just copy-paste one of them and rotate.
- 00:23:665 (4,5,6) - Try to have these sliders a consistent spacing apart from each other for this pattern.
- 00:25:540 (3) - This is a good place for an NC due to the downbeat and the gap in the rhythm.
- 00:25:915 (1) - As before about sliders.
- 00:30:977 (1,2,3) - I don't think this spacing/flow matches the music very well. You made 1-2 jump, and then reduced the spacing going into slider 3, where in my opinion the intensity of this note is higher as the vocals are higher pitched. Plus I don't believe the way 3 curves is the most intuitive flow you can have here following from 2. The main thing I'd recommend is increasing the spacing for 2-3 though.
- 00:31:915 (4) - Place a clap on this for consistency.
- 00:38:665 (4) - As above.
- 00:46:540 (1,2,1) - These sliders look really rough in my opinion. I think the best thing here is to look up sliderwaves on
this thread, since that thread already has everything explained.
- 00:54:227 (2) - I'd put the NC here since this is where the guitar starts, and would make the timing easier to read, since currently 00:53:665 (6,1) and 00:53:852 (1,2) has fairly similar spacing.
- 01:12:040 (1,2,3,4) - I wouldn't say there's anything in the music that suggests using reduced spacing like this.
- 01:17:102 (3) - As before about making smoother sliders.
- 01:19:352 - Perhaps consider placing a circle on here before going straight into the spinner? The harder note would represent the guitar note better than a spinner start.
- 02:00:040 (7) - You seem to have the whistle going over the entire slider instead of just the head. I'm not sure if this is intentional or not.
- 02:02:290 (2) - As above.
- 02:13:540 (5) - NC here might be more appropriate since this is where the kiai starts.
- 02:27:602 (2) - As before about making the slider smooth. Try to use one slider point for the curve if possible.
- 02:29:102 (3,5) - Same applies to these.
- 02:33:602 (8) - And this one.
- 02:34:727 (3,4,5) - Similar thing as before about appropriate spacing. I feel that 02:35:102 (5) has more impact that the other notes in this combo, so a jump into 5 is more appropriate than the reduced spacing.
- 03:00:790 (6) - Interesting slider. It can still benefit by reducing the amount of slider points you use though.
- 03:03:040 (1) - Same for this one.
- 03:09:040 (1,2) - And these. I'd recommend using some red points so that the corners look a little better.
- 03:40:165 (6) - This slider misses the vocal note on 03:40:352 and maps the downbeat to a slider end, which to me isn't ideal. I'd recommend reducing this slider down to a 1/2 and place a circle on the downbeat.
- 03:46:540 (1,4) - As before about having the whistle over the entire slider. These actually don't sound too bad here though, so you could just apply this to the other sliders if you wished.
- 03:59:852 (5,6) - I'd reccommend stacking these so that there is less confusion in the timing since there's a gap in the rhythm.
- 04:01:540 - Perhaps use a silent sliderslide.wav for this quiet section?
- 04:01:540 (1) - As before with sliders.
Rough exampleYou can make this even better by making it perfectly symmetrical by placing it in the centre and Ctrl+H it until it looks the same on both sides.
- 04:24:790 (1) - Wow the slider ticks. Yeah this one definitely needs to be changed.
- 04:50:477 (1,4) - Slider things here too.
- 04:52:352 (2,3) - This sort of overlapping doesn't look very nice in my opinion. Overlapping 1 may be a little more acceptable though.
- 04:55:915 (2) - I feel like you could do a better slider than this, right now it looks really out of place. It doesn't even need to be that complex.
- 04:57:227 (3,4) - More sliders that could be improved.
- 05:00:227 (5,6,1) - The flow could be improved by moving 05:00:602 (1) below 05:00:415 (6) so that the circular flow remains in the same direction.
- 05:04:540 (2) - Another slider that could be improved.
- 05:22:915 (3,4,5) - Similar thing as before about spacing. I feel like 05:23:290 (5) deserves a greater spacing because of the piano note.
- 05:27:977 (5,6,7) - Same thing here but with slider 7.
- 05:31:540 - In my opinion, ending the map here feels somewhat abrupt and I wasn't expecting it. I feel like it would accompany the music much better if you mapped to the end of the song.
Other than a few rough edges it's not a bad map. Good luck!
