As I said there are exceptions, I also said that's it's just a general rule of thumb that applies well to beginners who usually can't judge as well whether a map is too difficult for them or not, as an experienced player can, so it's an easy to remember benchmark. (Also there are plenty of maps with rather even difficulty levels throughout, and it's not like playing non-max difficulty parts is wasted time, it's good for consistency and accuracy). So going "this isn't true at all" is quite a stretch, even if your particular example is fine too.

If you're already good with solid fundamentals, good skills, and a solid understanding of the game, playing shithard maps with NF might be able to help you.

What won't help is playing 6* maps with NF as a 6 digit player

At your level you arent qualified to give any kind of advice, let alone playing 6* maps.

Boy was I wrong. I"m personally miffed because I already did some of these things on my own without ever reading this "guide". If I was struggling with a particular part of a map I'd flip on NF and play it again, because I needed to push beyond my initial panic of "That part I always fail is coming, OH GOD!"

And longer maps have there ups and downs, they're good for building stamina yeah, but if you're playing a longer map and a segment comes that could have been easily emulated by a shorter map then yeah play those shorter maps to get a feel for what it'll be like.

Main thing is that not only "old" players and shitposters read GnR, a lot of time newbies comes here and read topics, most likely when they see something like "Advice: how to get better" they will read this. It's how it works.
This topic is heavily missleading and from both - technical and practical point of view complete reverse of "how to be better" - "so called advices" here are main recipe to be a shitty garbage player who just react on circles and don't play a rhythm game at all.
I think making shitstorm here had his purpose, in place of newbie i wouldn't even take seriously "advice" topic where majority of posters throwed shit at OP and mixed whole topic with trash.

Not true.
There is great amount of long size maps what are practically a constant difficulty spike. There are long maps what are way more difficult than any known TV Size.
Basicaly long maps and especialy marathon maps from 4,5*+ are more difficult than tv size on same star range due requiring way more consistency, stamina, patient and focus.
Main pros of tv size maps is that they are short and farmable for many people, doesn't require extreme aim and stamina consistency and gives less / similar amount of pp.
Difference is - player able to consistently FC long maps will have way easier time with tv size maps while player who focus mainly on tv size maps will have hard time on marathon size maps.

The level of concentration and consistency you need for longer maps is much higher for long maps.
