I dont think there are any reasons why this should be done, but it certainly would make things more convenient. Atm you can still make about 1 post on those threads, but after that a moderator always seems to close them. Would be easier if it was automatic.

I feel as if some of them should stay open, and moderators can lock as they seem fit.

threads don't get locked because the request was invalid. threads get locked when it gets out of hand.
