My gf really loves osu! I thought it was pretty fun when she introduced it to me but, I didn't get super into it like she did.
Well now, she really wants to play it with me all the time but, I stink. Any song we play together is either infuriatingly difficult for me or painfully easy for her even with mods :/
I want to get a lot better so, I can play the game my gf loves so much with her and also have fun.
I was wondering if you guys could give me some tips on improving in this game (besides practicing, which I'm doing a lot of)
Any help at all that you can give me is appreciated.
Thanks
Rilene
Just push yourself over just above your line, day by day and don't push it like 27 feet from your current position at once.

Play a lot, improvements comes from experience

A few tips then:

1) Play songs you can finish (pass). Nobody started the game by playing Image Material or Apparition (two well-known difficult songs) 9001 times to finally pass it, it's much more fun to be able to get a score (and a good one, with rank A or S/SS) in songs that you know you can play.

2) Don't retry a song immediately after missing a note. It's (in my opinion) better to finish the song at least a few times without retrying to get the grip of the general rhythm and note placement, and if you continuously break at a certain point, you should restart whenever you break there, then.

3) Play by tapping with the keyboard. Of course using only a mouse (or a tablet) is fine too, but in general it's easier to play the game by "clicking" the keyboard instead and moving the mouse.

4) Find what is particularly difficult for you. Is it streams (flowing amounts of circles to click rapidly)? Is it jumps (single circles to click across the screen)? You should train what you find difficult; try to find a particularly challenging song (that you can finish, though) and you'll improve in that area, whether it is streaming or jumping, especially.

5) Just play more. Nobody became an osu god immediately. Best players have played for years (e.g. Doomsday 7 years, Cookiezi 7 years too), or if they have 1-2 years in their profile, they've just dedicated their life for the game, playing it a lot then.

6) Also, I suggest you host the multiplayer games instead of your girlfriend. That way you get to choose the songs that aren't too difficult for you, and so on. Sure, she might still be better at them, but at least the both of you have more fun when you can play the maps too. :)

Gameplay and Ranking 13 is better suited to finding more information on how to improve.

Basically the only way to get better is to play more, there is no magical sauce to drink to improve your gameplay.

This is really cute! :D
Yeah, to get better you basically just have to play more and stay motivated!
