Problem Details:
i used to play osu! a while back and after i uninstalled it and tried to re-install it a few days ago it keeps bringing up the same error, it's not a matter of internet connection as i switched internet and tried to taking my computer to a hardware store and use that internet to figure out if it was something malfunctioning but everything seems fine and it brought up the same error.

Could you try this? Create a new folder in the desktop, download this osu!.exe, move it to the folder that you have created and try to run it, it should start downloading the archives inside that folder. If after doing that it's still not working, probably there is something wrong with your NET Framework installation, like in previous cases. You could try to use the NET repair tool (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloa ... x?id=30135), restart your computer and then try to run osu! again. If it's still not working after doing that, you should have an archive named "update.log" inside the folder where you are trying to install osu!. Copy its content and paste it here please.

Ok, So i found out that you were right and the problem lies within the .NET framework application. I tried using the cleanup and fix tools that microsoft gives you on their website but it seems that i can't even run the setup for the framework. i tried everything from restarting to trying to get the framework files from a friend's computer but nothing seems to work out. I also tried removing the files for the framework from every possible directory in my computer but some of them keep giving me an error and saying i cannot remove them. Each time i tried to re-run the setup nothing comes up as if i hadn't even clicked it in the first place. Not sure what i can do at this point so i appreciate any solution you might have for this problem.

How exactly did you ascertain that the framework caused this issue?

You shouldn't be messing with .NET framework files directly, especially if you don't know what you're doing.

What was the result when you tried replacing the installer with the osu!.exe file provided?

As soon as Trosk said it might be the .NET framework i checked with the repair tool to be sure if it was the cause, and the repair tool said that it found problems but it could not repair them at which point it tried to install a fresh version of the .NET framework but every time i click the installer nothing pops up, not even an error message and i even check the task manager for any added processes and still nothing. I scheduled my computer for a format next week and hopefully it should fix itself afterwards. If not i have no clue what i can do to fix this problem.

Can you post the contents of the update.log file found in the Logs folder (inside the osu! folder) here anyway?

hey, here's an idea. how about u try looking for avcodec-51.dll on the internet and just paste them at yr osu folder. after that try running the updater again.

You don't need to look for the files. the links to the downloads are in the log itself.
