If I use my arm as a lever, both my fingers tire out and slow down rapidly, and most of the time, if there's a stream of triplet randomly inserted within, my reaction to use my second finger is so delayed that I miss all but the first note. Is there a correct way to single tap?

you can switch fingers after each singletap to save stamina 
There's no single correct way to singletap.
The way I singletap is with my wrist and forearm resting on my desk, and I put force into my singletaps.
To save stamina you could consider switching fingers at sliders.
