Fountain Pens

So I've been baptized into the world of fountain pens through a little mishap with school shopping; I mistook a two-pack BIC disposable fountain pen for an overpriced gel pen that I burned through in about 2 months (around one pen per month, lots of notes were taken with it). I've enjoyed my writing experiences with it (The lines were super thick though), and now that it's gone I have a slight hole in my pen-hand's heart. (As well as a decrease in longevity when writing notes with a ballpoint again)

I'm currently looking for a pen with a fine line that allows for slight variations in thickness. My budget for this is about $50-$80, and should be relatively durable and easy to service. A lot of people have told me as a starter that I get a Pilot Metropolitan, which I am considering.

Any other suggestions for this fellow writer? I've done a fair bit of research into other brands like Parker and Montblanc but somehow I feel like there is more to it that those brands.

Pilot makes some pretty sick ass high quality pens. Depending on where you live it might be hard to get some of their higher quality stuff, but they are an industry standard when it comes to pens of all types.

I ended up going for the Pilot pen after all. I saw a couple Kaweco pens that fit my personal aesthetic criteria but just ended up costing a lot more for a starter.

I once again enjoy that uber smooth writing experience I missed with the older BIC pen. I feel like I'm writing my country's constitution - in 1867 - every time I take notes now.

I'm also lamenting the fact that these damn ink cartridges are small, and the converters aren't that big either in terms of ink volume. The disposable BIC pen that I carried before had WAAAY more ink than that one, and I used that up in about a month (I write a sh*t ton of notes at school, and homework).
