Maybe I'll try it sometime, since I am bad at alternating in both hands...

Any Bemani game (Dance Dance Revolution, Beatmania, etc etc)
Project Diva (vocaloid rhythm game)
Stepmania (Dance Dance Revolution simulator)

You should check out Stepmania because it's free and you can set it up pretty quickly.

I'm not sure if these games will make you good at osu (I played other rhythm games before osu and I suck)

This
mania-like games are way too different in my opinion as you're forced to press multiple buttons at a time.
Also Taiko really drills acc as the OD is way more strict than on std.

aim is hands down the most important aspect of standard.

so no not really, unless you have god aim and shit acc. like a certain american flag UK player who just has god everything nowadays.

its better than doing nothing i guess, but the surefire best way to improve at osu! is to play osu!. i can guarantee 99% of the skill you gain when you get back from your break will be from the break itself not the other game you played.

Taiko and Mania will both help you practice speed and finger co-ordination, but not much else.

Ive heard from several people that playing taiko inproved their rhythmic perception and streaming abilities so id recommend that, but keep in mind that osu is best for osu.
